Biocube 29 - AQ115 Skimmer same chamber as return pump?

I currently have my heater in Chamber 1, my AquaticLife 115 Mini Skimmer in Chamber 2 alongside my Media Basket, and my MJ1200 in Chamber 3.

 

I really want to try putting some chaeto moss in Chamber 2 with the Fuge Basket.

 

Would there be any problems running the AQ115 Skimmer in Chamber 3 alongside the MJ1200? It's a perfect fit.

 

I keep the canopy closed so not very much water disappears, and I top off the water myself usually.

How well is your skimmer currently running in chamber 2? IMO you would need an ATO if you put the skimmer in 2 or 3 as skimmers are very sensitive to fluctuations in water level. The more consistent the water level, the more efficiently it will skim. I keep my Aquaticlife 115 in chamber 1 and my heater in chamber 3. The water level in 1 stays rock solid with or without an ATO and I can use chamber 2 for both the media basket and fuge.

Hm..I am still breaking in my skimmer, it's not doing too well though. On the other hand, if I put the skimmer in Chamber 1 and the heater in Chamber 3, then I would still need an ATO for the heater.

 

I think I am going to try to go skimmerless for now and see how the chaeto does.
