Summer Coming, Cooling fan suggestion needed.

I have a fusion nano 10, I am wanting to get some cooling fans.

I see this on a site and I am wondering if it is a good choice. http://www.reefsupplies.ca/online-store/UP-Aqua-2-Row-Flexible-Aquarium-Cooling-Fan.html

I promised myself a fan before summer, and a skimmer before year end.

What else is out there that is not overly expensive, I am currently on a tight budget due to a trip this summer.

Go to Target or Walmart and buy a cheap plug in fan. I bought one for $9. You don't need a fancy clamp on fan. Mine is the one you see at cash registers for the workers occasionally.

Mine looks just like this one EXCEPT it has a standard 110 plug on it. Not USB. LINK

Hello fellow Canadian! I love Reef Supplies, but you can get a fan a lot cheaper from eBay. This (2 head) is the exact one I have and used it two summers now. Originally on a Fusion 10 and now on a Fusion 20. It works amazingly well, and is fairly quiet too considering how tiny the fans are.

I sed it a few weeks back when it got really hot in my house (before I set up A/C) and it cooled the tank 3 degrees in about 30 min. I had to actually turn it off because the tank was getting too cool and the heater couldn't keep up!

I will keep that in mind. See what my husband says about me getting that. If it works on your fusion 10.

Pretty much any fan works, they all move air :) I used a cheap $10 clip on fan without issue! Not the prettiest but I only use it for a few months anywho. A lot of people use computer fans and plug the USB part into an old phone charger.

I have used clip on fans for decades. WalMart has the 2 speed fans for around $10 and they work great. Back when I was still using 880 watts of metal halide and VHO lighting in a completely enclosed canopy in Phoenix I was able to sell my 1/4HP chiller by using a clip on fan over my sump so it was blowing across the longest surface and two computer fans in the canopy both blowing in with a couple equal sized holes in the roof of the canopy.

I ended up putting the fans on a temperature controller so they didn't cool things down too much and cause the heater to come on too. A 3-5 degree reduction is easy and 5-7 is not unusual although you will need to top off more frequently with RO/DI.

I had the USB one, but lost the cord....

How does it work out for you?

Mine never turns on with my current setup. My tank is in the basement so it is nice and cool year round. My previous tank it would come on and drop the temp to the desired setting within minutes. All Apex controlled of course.

I found a power supply that connects to the fan, but it is not necessarily the correct powersupply.... I was at 84 and it is lowering the temp well. I may need to get a better ATO tank setup to compensate for evap.

My ATO has filled three times in the past hour - Evap is happening temp has gone from 84 to 79. How much water should I be needing for a 10 gallon?

how effective are fans? better to blow on sump or display?

I don't think it really makes a difference, the water is constantly circulated. I have mine in my sump where water falls over a baffle :)

One different of sump vs display is sump usually more contained and hotter, especially if you have light in there. My sump is usually 3 degree higher. So it's a bit less efficient, but probably not by much.

I have the same tank. I placed a fan in the rm directed in the tanks area, its kept my temp at 79, otherwise it was creeping to 83
