Yeah, a single bonded pair. You don't necessarily have to buy them together. You can add a second by introducing a notably smaller juvenile.

percula are smaller. IMO, max 2 if you buy them as a pair.

so if i was to go with percula clownfish in staid then how many of them can i keep in there then?

The limit of two has more to do with bonded pairs in a small tank, than how many clownfish your bio-filter will handle. It takes a much larger tank to support multiple pairs or even a harem.

i'm not exactly sure how powerful my equipment is because i got all the equipment live sand rock etcetera.. as a kit from bulk reef supply and the instructions didn't say very much about the individual equipment specifically.

I think it's more of space/territory thing. stick with just 2.

so it would be best if i stick with just two ocellaris or pericula clowns and then maybe get a different fish?

2 clowns only. Clowns become aggressive as they sexually mature.

I can see multiple pairs in 100g plus tanks but with the territorial nature they exhibit, I wouldn't advise more than 2 in average size tanks or smaller.

What type of sea star did you order?

a brittle star

That should be alright, but they can grow to be almost a foot in diameter (not exactly micro).

if it gets to big then ill just give it too my friend zach. he has a 300 gallon setup that should be good enough for at least one brittle star

Be careful when adding your fish to your tank. Adding 3 fish at one time is a serious increase in bioload, especially in a small tank. Monitor your ammonia carefully while your biofiltration adjusts to the new load. You may need to do extra water changes. Be prepared. Good luck and enjoy your new fish!

I can vouch for the becoming aggressive when sexually mature. The entire 30 gallon is there's. They won't tolerate anything living that moves, including my hand and tank tools. They have super personalities though I must say and are a lot of fun. They really are "clowns". The female wears the pants in the relationship lol. The male isn't as aggressive .

Sounds like a good group of fish you picked!

Have fun ?
