Dip regimen for gsp & zoas

Hello all,

Quick question as I am relatively new to this. My past coral purchases I have dipped in a quick freshwater dip then Bayer's then Seachem coral dip which is an elemental iodine dip. Purchased some zoas and gsp from my lfs and before I go through the same regimen, I wanted to run this by some more seasoned reefers as these are the most "soft" corals I have purchased.

Thanks,

---Kyle

I'm hardly a seasoner reefer, but here's my two cents. For both soft corals and LPS (no SPS yet for me), I dip with Revive, and then put the coral into QT for two weeks. After one week in QT, I re-dip in Revive to (hopefully) kill off any newly hatched nuisances.

The main purpose of the QT for me is to observe the frags for issues (hitchhikers, algae, aiptasia, etc.), and treat appropriately.

Hopefully some more experienced people will chime in too! :)

For what its worth to anyone interested, I went ahead the following dip regimen:

- Freshwater dip for ~45 sec

- 10 min dip in 1 cup of tank water + 10 ml of bayer

- 10 min soak in container of tank water

- 10 min soak in 1 cup of tank water + 1/2 cap full of Seachem coral dip

- 10 min soak in another container of tank water

Plus intermittent blasting with turkey baster and toothbrush scrubbing.

Afterwards zoas and gsp were placed in my tank. All the zoas have opened nicely and a good portion of the gsp was open this morning. I inspected all the dip containers, and I wasn't able to really identify any pests.

I simply dip them in my coral rx, swish it around, then dip in tank water, enaure they are clean, then place in tank.

Coral RX is the way to go. I have only freshwater dipped once and it was for zoas that had zoa eating nudibranch. I do like using the iodine dip only on zoas since they love iodine. Zoas are ok to freshwater dip becasue they will close up. I would be cautious to freshwater dip most corals unless you have no choice like pest or something. Seems like a lot of dipping which will cause a lot of shock especially if you ordered your corals online. The shipping puts a good amount of stress. I would look into some RX, super easy to use and its all you need. Just my option though, everyone has their own ways. You have some pictures of your new corals? How are they setting in?

I usually just dip for 5 minutes in my no name brand coral dip (which works really well!). If it has bacterial issues or damage to it i dip in a solution of 500mls tank water with 7 drops of iodine for 20 minutes. Works like a charm

I've had no problems with putting softies in with seachem reef dip for about 20 mins then putting them in the tank

See my video on the Bayer method. That's what I do and still haven't had any problems. Plus, you can use it around the house too. More bang for the buck.
