Very first Zoas- Is this Aiptasia?

Got my first coral frags in a couple days ago- 4 Zoas. I tried my best to remove the old coral plugs, but was concerned about damaging the Zoas as these are my first and I wasn't sure how delicate they are. And I noticed this very small Aiptasia looking extension right next to one of the Zoas. I have everything in QT, but wanted to know if this has indeed Aiptasia and if I should remove the plug and scape off or use Aiptasia-x? Thanks All!

Hard to tell on my phone....but looks like it.

I don't care for Aiptasia - X. I'd just lightly touch it with your finger to make it retract. Cover it's hole with Super Glue gel so it can't come out. Easy and done.

+1 on just putting a dab of super glue over it. Works every time.
I wouldn't mess with chemicals unless your tank was overrun by them.

Agree with both that super glue is the way to go. I'd pull the frag out (remembering exactly where the aiptasia tucked under the rock and glue it. I've done many times.

What you will find it the aiptasia may find another crack to breach through. You may want to think ahead and glue around all the cracks you see under the area the zoa is.

Thanks for the replies! I just put some superglue over it. You would think it would be easy just to scrape off, but once you remove the frag from water, you can't see the aiptasia at all.

Any tips on completely removing the zoa from the frag? That was my original intent, but tried razor blade, exacto knife, dremel with cutoff bit, but nothing seemed to easily cut through the plug. I was worried I would slip up and cut the zoa, so I just broke off as much surround as I could and glued to the new plugs. Why on earth those old plugs are so bulky I don't know.

I agree with Jack. I am not a fan of aiptasia X myself. it bothers the corals and doesn't seem to kill the aiptasia in my experience. with just one or two, superglue works wonders :)

It's virtually impossible to scrape aiptasia off. Plus, even if you can scrape it off, leaving even a little bit of the foot will cause the aiptasia to grow and possibly reproduce.

See the glue on the top of the frag plug? Your zoa is sitting on it. Take some bone cutters and just clip where the glue is coming into contact with the frag plug and it should snip right off. Then just glue that piece of glue up on your rock work.

Bone cutters are the best way to frag when you don't have a band saw!

Suggest doing exactly as Stella advises. :)
