New Derasa Clam Help

Hey guys. I finally got a new Derasa from my LFS after wanting one forever. It was the only one they had but it looked great. I'm still new to clams but he's doing well so far in my SPS dominant tank. I have some pictures and wanted to hear from fellow clam lovers if you think he's looking alright. He's been out of direct light for almost 4 days to acclimate, and I'm going to move him closer to his new spot under the light tomorrow.

Do you guys think he looks healthy??

Clam looks good. Derasa's are pretty easy to keep and grow. I had one for a while before I took down my old tank.

By the way, you might want to siphon out that cyano-looking growth on the sand bed before it gets out of hand. That has the potential to cause disaster.

Thanks a ton. Yeah the cyano... tell me about it. I've been battling it slightly for a while, it comes and goes. I'm going to do a water change today, but cyano is a tough son of a gun. Problem is with my setup I have a "dead" spot where the clam is placed. Not much flow, so I'm thinking about grabbing a small powerhead to put in the corner behind the clam to kick some detritus up (once I move the clam of course).

U should be able to tell if ur clam is growing by looking at it at night when it's mantle is retracted some. Look at the top of the shell and see if u see new white growth. That's want u want to see. It won't happen until it's acclimated but u should always see a Thin white strip of shell along the rim at the top showing new growth that hasn't been covered in coralline or algae yet.

Thanks for the replies all. So for "he" is doing well. I've got him on the edge of the tank still and moving him closer to directly under the light tomorrow. His shell seems to have new growth, although it's small, since I've gotten him a week and a half ago. I'm looking forward to seeing how he does.
