Hey all, ive been stalking these forums for a bit. I own my own biz where I make custom fishing rods and the shop needed some life. Always wanted a reef tank and now seemed like the right time. Im in shop 12-14 hours a day so the worry of maintenance and needing to check levels and keep stuff in line is okay for me because I'm an arms length away 98% of the time. I went with the Coralife BioCube 29. I just finished adding live sand. I have the full spectrum dimmable rapidLED kit enroute. Also I tanks media basket, have media on hand and poly coming as well. Also using (for now, I know the next few months will be spent in my LFS) a koralia PH. I'd like to thank all the posts and people who have WAYYY more knowledge than I who freely help and have let me learn a bit to take this challenge/hobby on.

One question I have, I have 20lbs of lives and 10lbs of live red rock. I have two koralia nanos and the cheesy biocube skimmer (it was cheap enough to give a shot, will more than likely upgrade to a tune once cycle is done) I'm waiting for my media basket so I can use my chemipure Purigen and poly fiber. For time being can I ditch the bio balls and pack second chamber with poly. First chamber has skimmer, third heater.

Also have rio pump heading to me by fri. Thanks guys. Brought water to LFS today and he said levels are where they should be for the time. (Also have saltwater mastwr test kit coming, LFS ran out)

Yup, ditch the bioballs. You're just starting the cycle, so no need to add media until the cycle is done! Now the waiting starts :)

Damn spell check is not fond of reef/tank related words and brands...smh

Perfect, thanks a ton. I bagged those spiky buggers and they won't see light of day. Atleast not in my tank:)

Just wait until you are trying to spell the names of corals. The most I would run right now in your tank since it is cycling is filter floss and maybe carbon.

Was that live rock already cycled? How are you feeding the bacteria (pure ammonia, or fish food)?

Make sure you test your water every day. You don't want to miss the cycle, and you def don't want to think it is cycled and add livestock when it really hasn't finished.

Also to answer your LR. Question, the rock was from a cycled established tank with fish. This very tank from my LFS

in that case you may be good to go? Test your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates to see where you're at, if you can pick up a bottle of dr.tims ammonia on Amazon, it will be waaaaaaaaay faster than ghost feeding... Trust me ive done both lol
