Please share some thoughts on this HOB filter.

I have been looking around for a good HOB for a while and I cannot find AquaClears anywhere near me...and whilst looking at LFS in neighboring countries (not so local ) I found this Japanese product.

 

 

You can find their website by googling TOTTO filter.

 

Their claims:

1. No need to clean

2. Easy and partial change of filter media

3. Their main selling point: Growth of anaerobic bacteria for nitrate removal

My thoughts on this:

1. It's kind of a lie, even though you do not clean the filter they expect you to regularly replace the filter media, which in my opinion is just a more expensive way of cleaning the filter.

2. I do think it is better designed as you can access all stages of filtration.

3. Not so sure on this one what do you guys think?

 

 

So here is the main question, should I buy this? I plan on not using their filter media and instead fill each compartment with bags of purigen, carbon, etc. will that work?

I seriously read everything about it and I think it is rubbish and I would never, EVER purchase from anyone who watches animals perish in a tank that hasn't had a water change in 32 days to 420 days to create a selling point.
