Cyano got me ?

One minute it wasn't there. Now it's there. So far it's not on any living things. Knock on wood.

 

Lately I'm not doing the happy dance. It's not the end of the world I know.

 

What's that remedy, slime away or something? Is it safe for everybody?

 

I remember having this once and it just went away by itself.

I've been dealing with it too, daily siphoning and frequent water changes are what I'm doing. Is there some magical remedy for this crap?

A lot of people here have used chemi-clean successfully. I got rid of mine with Microbacter7 and algone - just what I had on hand.

The magic is only within regular water changes and proper feeding/stocking/nutrients.

 

I was fighting a little cyano a while ago, but I replaced my chemical media (phosphate remover and chemi pure) and started doing more water changes. Another thing I have done it rinsed all of the frozen food I use. So, I take my mysis and rinse it really well in RODI water before I feed the tank.

 

I have been removing my sand as well. I was getting lazy siphoning it every few days, so now I am just taking it out. I think it is helping the most. I can't believe how much junk is in the sand.

I am a strong advocate of Chemi clean. I battled with water changes and syphoning and it seemed like every day it would be back on my sand. Dose of chemi clean in and poof gone for good. It was the silver bullet for me.

I was just mixing my mysis with tank water and using the liquid to wake up my Suns.

Also feeding them a lot. Ever since I put a bright coral on my tank it's been nothing but problems. Hind Sight is definitely twenty twenty!

Using products to remove the cyano will get rid of it but the problem will reappear in future because the cause of the cyano's first appearance hasn't been corrected.

 

 

Regular weekly water changes with vacuuming sand and using a turkey baster on rocks helps remove a lot of detritus/waste in the tank which if left in the tank will lead to high nutrient levels-causing unwanted algaes.

 

Changing filter floss 1-2 times a week, cleaning filter socks regularly is also important

 

If using hob filters these need cleaning monthly, including intakes and powerheads

 

Cleaning skimmer pumps and skimmers itself on a monthly basis

 

Lowering the amount that is being fed
