blasterman
Anybody used a Royal / Cool Blue / Neutral trip-up lately (Steve's or other) running full out on each LED (each LED running at the same level) ? Friend of mine asked me to help him with a build, but we have limited options. I have some Royal / Royal / Neutral triples, and while I like them they weren't 'blue' enough for him. I gave up on cool blues awhile ago because it seems all the bins are drifting to the 'green' side and I'm worried a Royal / CB / Neutral combo might be too cyanish' and I'm wasting my time. Would appreciate responses stick to the context of the question. Clustering and added colors are not an option here. Needs to fit on a triple (or quad) or it won't work. Link to comment
jedimasterben
The only cool blues that are actually blue are the XP-E2 that LEDgroupbuy is stocking now. You could get one of the 3up stars from Steve's that normally has a violet SemiLEDs 3535 chip and just flow an XP-E2 onto it. Link to comment

If your friend is willing to spend a little more the guy that runs this will get exactly want you want. In the beginning of NBR I used these guys for some projects. Hope this helps. http://www.luxeonstar.com/rebel-saber-tri-star-led-assemblies Link to comment
blasterman
I'll check out the XP-E2s. This guy is currently running a dying AI-Sol with the cool blue option, and while those units are good for SPS they are really tough to match because of increasingly tough to find cool blue bins. jedimasterben
I wore Milad down for a while to get him to go for the low wavelength blues, and finally he did, and they're awesome. I wish I would have through to do a side by side when I swapped the shitty cyan blues for them, it's night and day. Link to comment
blasterman
Fuk -n A man'. Those 470nm blues do stuff that nothing else does. Start getting closer to 480nm and it's just not there. Just makes your tank look more cyan / turquoise / green without any additional pop. Tried everybody's...Steves, RapidLED....same thing. I'll order a couple from group buy and see if they are the right ones. The circus lights with all the colors are great for softies and LPS, but for mature SPS tanks the colors are a bit of a waste. jedimasterben
I'm right there with you, man. I wish I would have taken pics of my tank under just the 'blue' Rebels from Steve's and compared to the XP-E2 blues to show others the difference. Link to comment
