tdannhauser30
I fish the Niagara river a lot and sometimes keep a steelhead or salmon or two and bring it home. When I do this I usually keep the eggs and cure them for bait. Would my fish like some of these eggs? These are Niagara River salmon mind you, so who knows could give my fish cancer from it lol. How about my coral? Maybe mash some up and spot feed them? Bad idea? Link to comment
seamonkeyminer
I dont know if I would smash them up you would end up with just a mess of proteins floating around fouling the water. There is always a chance of introducing some pathogen to you tank by doing so with wild fish. The main question do you have to ask is the benefit out way the risk. Also depending on the salmon eggs might be a little large for your fish's mouth depending on size. You could maybe try freezing them (though most residential freezers dont get cold enough to kill everything) then feeding them. Link to comment
Hammerstone
I would think they might be too big. Thinking back to my fishing days and the eggs in the bait jars? Link to comment
tdannhauser30
The steelhead eggs I have are actually pretty small, Maybe half the size of a salmon egg, even less maybe. Yeah salmon eggs might be too big but Its steelhead season anyway lol. I think I'm going to do it, I really think my fish will like it and it is probably good for them? ( assuming they dont get some disease from them). Definitely risky I guess idk i feel like its something I should try lol. Maybe just a couple... Anyway Im going fishing tomorrow AM so if I get a hen steel head.... Feast for the tank! Ill definitely freeze them first good idea! Ive also heard of people boiling them to cure them, that would probably help to kill everything off as well. Link to comment
patback
I wouldn't boil them. Freezing for about 20 Days is good enough for people to kill off lots of parasites of wild game....think the fish will be okay with the freezing route. Link to comment
fishfreak0114
I have salmon eggs in my freezer, and I defrost them and squish out the insides and soak mysis in it. The fish and corals love it and I haven't had any problems Link to comment

fishfreak0114
I figured that the eggs had lots of good stuff in it so why not use them? I've tried feeding a whole egg to my duncan, but it was a bit too big. And then my cleaner shrimp nabbed it lol. When I soak the food, I put the mysis and egg insides in a Tupperware in the fridge in the morning and leave it all day. Then I feed in the evening so that it has lots of time to soak up the goodness Link to comment
