Can someone fill me in on the frag racks?

Not sure of the reason as to why I see people with the coral frag racks in their tanks. Is there a general reason as to why people use these in their main setups? Is it some special way to introduce the corals to your tank? For spot feeding? For acclimating? All of these? Any help is appreciated because I'm looking into getting a rack for plugs, but I wanna know the benefit, if any. Thanks.
