Laybackk
Not sure of the reason as to why I see people with the coral frag racks in their tanks. Is there a general reason as to why people use these in their main setups? Is it some special way to introduce the corals to your tank? For spot feeding? For acclimating? All of these? Any help is appreciated because I'm looking into getting a rack for plugs, but I wanna know the benefit, if any. Thanks. Link to comment
HarryPotter
Many reasons, mostly acclimation, Growout, and storage. As you know, typically smaller corals come on frag plugs. When you introduce corals LIGHT acclimation is just as important as temperature acclimation; depending on where you got it from the coral could bleach if exposed to high lighting. So why not put the frag on the sand bed? It falls over! Traps detritus! Gets thrown about by unruly snails! Is ugly as heck!!! Because the light where you want a coral to eventually be may too much compared to what it's used to, you can't glue it immediately. A frag racks allows a safe place to put new corals with adjustable lighting (height) and little eyesore. When I frag my own corals to trade or sell, I put them on a frag rack as they are out of the way and not hanging all over where they can be lost and such. Link to comment
Laybackk
Alright cool, thanks man. And then later once they are acclimated you'll cut them off the plug and place accordingly? Link to comment
StevieT
Depends on the coral. Some pop off, some are encrusted or some can't come off like mushrooms. In that case you can cut off the stem from the plug and glue to the rock. Link to comment

Oceanbox Designs
I use it for acclimation, frags off main colony waiting to be sold, or mostly just waiting for me to decide where I want to glue them in. I want to plan out my scape well so I'd imagine how the corals will grow into the full colony and then glue them accordingly. Link to comment

I used glue for first corals bc rock was still new and I could pull out. Now that my rocks are integrated I can't do that. I am so interested! I can't figure out what to do with corals. So far everyone is happy but every morning I have to check and move corals that were moved to sand during CUC time. Thank you!! Link to comment

msparklym13
super glue gel Hi! I have the super glue gel but do you pull your rock out to glue? How do you glue to rock when rock is in water? Link to comment
Rpc07
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=edJ8Lorgxi8 This video explained a lot for me and helped me mount all my corals. As far as the main question, I use my frag rack for corals I just purchased before I decide where to mount them. Link to comment

I pulled my rock out to glue the corals, mine is relatively small and easy to remove. To glue coral underwater, I use superglue gel + waterweld. I dap some super glue gel to your coral base, add a chunk of waterweld, add more superglue gel over the waterweld, now just squeeze and press to the rock where you want to glue the coral. It will cure and become rock solid underwater Have fun gluing corals! Link to comment
