Alexraptor
We all know they got teensy weensy mouths and feed on pods and other small invertebrates. But has anyone actually taken the time to get a "really" close look at those amazing little mouth parts? What struck me as interesting is how the structure of the jaw bones is very similar to that of a Mantis Shrimp's raptorials, which would explain how they can strike with such incredible speed and energy. The action is so violent it can actually be heard not just inside but also outside of the tank. Reef tanks never get boring! Link to comment
Matteo
love these little guys! I have a larger tank now with a sump with a nice and dirty fuge full of pods so I am definitively considering it! Link to comment
spinycheek
They are amazing! I always loved watching mine eat. Link to comment
Matteo
I have owned in the past and have noticed at night sometimes they random float to the top and drift. Do yours ever do this? Link to comment
Laybackk
The hummingbirds of the reef, for sure. Link to comment
Alexraptor
I have owned in the past and have noticed at night sometimes they random float to the top and drift. Do yours ever do this? It has happened, but not very often. She mostly did it when I first moved her into her new tank last summer, not so much these days. Although she will creep along the glass from top to bottom in her hunt for those delicious pods chowing down on the algae film. Link to comment
Clown79
I have always wanted one. I think they are so beautiful. Fascinating creature Link to comment
ml86743
Thats so neat! Cool thread! I love my mandy...one of the most personable fishes I've ever owned. I've grown quite attached to mine so sweet:) Link to comment
Hammerstone
I love them but too intimidated to put them in a 30. Was thinking of making a species tank and trying to get a pair but I don't think there would be enough pods. Maybe if there was a guarantee that they were eating frozen food. The LFS down here don't carry live food of any kind and I know I don't want to raise live food. Those are my limitations. Lol. They are gorgeous and sweet.? Link to comment
smallreef19
I've had mine in a 12 gallon fluval edge for 1 year+ eats everything including flakes Link to comment
Alexraptor
Not that 2 Mandarins is a large sample size, but so far I have had immediate success in both cases with Ocean Nutrition's lobster eggs. Not surprising all things considered, seeing as how they also feed on fish eggs in the wild. Link to comment
