krusing93 Posted April 26, 2016 Share Posted April 26, 2016 Water changes on a small tank under 10 gallon once a week takes care of the problems a protein skimmer will take care of on a bigger tank... I am opting for a HOB fuge on my tank that just finished cycling the other day Link to comment
Nanomaniac Posted April 26, 2016 Share Posted April 26, 2016 If frequent water changes are keeping your water quality at adequate levels then I wouldn't waste the money on additional equipment, such as a protein skimmer. If you increase your systems bio-load in the future then opting to add a protein skimmer might help, but for now just keep doing what you're doing. Link to comment
Clown79 Posted April 26, 2016 Share Posted April 26, 2016 I wouldn't worry if you maintain the tank weekly. If anything through researching I have read 20g and under really need to be watchful with skimmers as it can remove trace elements as well. An hob filter or fuge plus water changes should be fine on a 6g. Link to comment
