I Just Googled that for ya..New is 400....

I goofed :( New is 500 with lens...400 w/out lens

Lol I googled it to, what i should have asked is, would it be wise to spend $300 on this canon rebel sl1 with lens kit or would my money be better spent on a different camera at the same price point. I am new to cameras and would like to get a dslr for taking pictures of my reef, so to me right now even after all the research I have done its all latin to me.

Research. I am going to be buying a DSLR soon...Pawn Shop. I Do have some Amateur experience in Photography.

The Rebel is a decent Camera. I'd have to visually look for myself how I like the Lens.

I Like Manual focus Macro Lenses. I Had a 70-210 Zoom Macro on a Pentax K1000, back in the day...Nice Photos...

I also had a DSLR Rebel...I liked it a lot, but had to sell :(

I might just have to check out the pwn shops around for a cheapo dslr to see if I can actually keep at it as a hobby.

The newer 18-55mm kit lens is really pretty good overall, not a bad lens to start with. What you will find, however, is that the lens may struggle to focus on things in your tank when you have the lens up close against the glass, mere inches away from a coral or fish. For these kinds of closeup shots, you will want to invest in a macro lens, which is simply a lens that is designed for extremely close focusing, rather than traditional photos where a subject is further away.

You can still get awesome shots with the 18-55mm lens, you just need to have the right expectations. The inability of a standard lens to focus closely was something that frustrated me back when I got my first digital camera 15 years ago, but I didn't understand that lenses have limitations on how closely they can focus. My eye wanted those super detailed closeups, but my gear wasn't designed for it.

$300 seems like a pretty good price, assuming the camera is in good shape and includes the original accessories.

has is stm 18-55 lens kit and is in new condition. This will be for taking pics of my reef.

I have this camera and use it to take pics and videos of my nanos. I love it and it just needs a good macro lens. I paid like $500+ for mine so $300 is a great price! Brand new? From a trusted company hopefully?

^ageeed! I use the 18-55 as well, pretty nice but can't hold the lens up to the glass. I believe it needs .8 feet to focus

A 12mm extension tube should help tremendously for getting it to focus closer :)

I love my SL1. It is a bit smaller and lighter than my T2i was, and has a much better/faster auto focus system.

Does Nikon have a camera that competes with the SL1?

Nikon D3200!

I have the D5200.

You can get a D3200 with the standard 18-55mm lens for about $353 NEW. Great intro dslr at 24.2MP for when you really want to blow a picture up. Also in the long run Nikon lenses are a smidge cheaper.

Don't answer Matteo it's a trap!

Too late General Ackbar :D

Eh, the D3200 is cheaper than the SL1, but it is also larger and heavier, in that area it more competes with the T4i. More resolution doesn't always mean better photos, but like you said can help when you need extreme crop.

The D3300 (the successor of the D3200) is closer, but the SL1 also has a much better autofocus system. Combine that with Canon's STM lenses and they focus extremely quickly and spot on almost every time.

I can agree with that. Also yes 24.2MP doesn't mean anything I know:D people tell me their phone has a 30MP camera and I'm like YOU FELL FOR IT.

If you really wanted the 5000 series of Nikons are really nice. Mine has a pull out swivel screen for awkward angel shooting which could be nice for taking pics of coral or getting top of the tank shots.

IF you canon you have plenty of Fanboys on here with extra lenses for sale:P

(I call you all fanboys but I still love you all)

I have a SL1 myself and its a pretty damn good camera. Even with the stock 18-55mm lens, its pretty good. Like Ben said, you can pick up some tubes and get better and close pics, but even with the stock lens, its not bad at all. The reviews are awesome and overall a small and compact set up.

If you're wanting to find a camera, check out bhphotovideo.com and keh.com also adorama.com. I find bh has more and better camera and lenses than the other 2.

But to answer your question, yes its a good deal.
