Stocking Possibilities with Hectors Goby

Hi everyone, not started a tank thread but I thought I'd ask this question. I'm looking for a variety of thoughts and opinions on other fish to possibly house with my hectors goby (A. Hectori/Gold-Streak Rainfords Goby) in my 58l cube. He currently is the only fish and lives alongside a small cleaner shrimp, a porcelain crab (soon to be two), two dwarf blue hermits, two Astraea snails, one turbo snail, two bumblebee snails, one Nassarius snail and various softies, lps and sps (and hopefully soon some rock flower anemones). He does consume frozen foods, however still gladly accepts (and prefers) live Copepods from my cultures that I feed every day along with any algae (red slime, hair algae etc) that he feeds on during the day. The tank does have a good amount of algae and he is healthy with no sunken belly etc that is often seen in these fish and is quite active. I'm simply looking to see if any other fish could be stocked that wouldn't have a serious impact on his sources of food and out compete or intimidate him extensively. Some people would disagree with keeping one in a nano, however he is healthy and doing very well. He comes first so if there are no other suitable fish, then I'll gladly keep him by himself. Thanks for reading.

If the Goby is regularly consuming frozen foods then I wouldn't worry too much about other fish competing for pods within your system. Your tank is 58 liters which comes in around 15gallons, depending on filtration I would recommend one to maybe two small fish more at the maximum. If needed you could also add a hang on the back refugium that will help in keeping a decent population of pods away from the threat of regular predation.

Okay thank you, and it is heavily filtered so maybe two other fish. Would anyone have any suggestions of nano fish that would fit in well ? I've looked at everything from trimma gobies to tail spot blennies to possum wrasses.

I would pick a fish that does not eat his pods/food source, even if he eats frozen, the natural food is important imo.

Peaceful planktivores that eat out of the water column would be the best bet. Since your tank is around 15 gallons, anthias and flasher wrasses are a no go. A firefish or golden assessor basslet would work perfectly. Or a small type of fang blenny may work in that size.

Also forgot to add: white spotted pygmy fish would be another good one.

Okay thank you both for your help, any chance you could send me a link to the fish you're suggesting Tamberav as I will be honest and say that I have never heard of a "white spot pygmy fish" ?

A purple firefish is a really nice fish. Very passive and quite beautiful.

I'm not sure about compatibility off the top of my head but liveaquaria.com has a chart you can check
