Lagoon 25 Stand

Well I think I'm about to start building a stand for the IM lagoon 25 that I should be ordering soon. I'm looking for input on what height I should make the stand. The stock stand is 36" high, putting the top of the tank at 46". For anybody with this tank, does the stock stand seem adequate? Any input is welcome!

Totally depends on you... I made my stand super tall, which is cool because I can fit a sump + all the other stuff underneath it. The downside is I have to use a step stool to stick my hands in it and I'm 5'11".

But I also really like looking straight ahead and seeing the full tank. It's a pain to have to bend over or crouch to see everything.

A popular trend among DIY stands lately is having it be a little taller than the manufactured stands so that you can include a shelf to put all your electronics. Install a power strip with individual switched outlets (search American DJ on Amazon) makes maintenance a breeze and you only have 1 cord going to the stand.

I built mine about the same as the manufacture's specs. I think I went 2 inches higher. I wanted to ensure the height of my light fixture wouldn't compete too much with low basement ceilings. Plus servicing the tank is easier at this height.

The height is definitely just what you like. I like being able to stick my hands in the tank without a step stool 36" works well for me.

So how you gonna build it? You should look into buying a Kreg Jig. My last stand I made was with veneered ply for the carcass and a face frame with poplar using glue and Kreg joints. I will never build a stand with 2x 4's ever again. its as strong if not stronger than 2x's. plus it doesnt weigh 100lbs. Using the Kreg jig gives you more room inside the stand and lets you build something that looks more like a piece of furniture rather than a fish tank stand. There are several stands here built using this method.

I'm modeling my stand off of this one. It will be 2 x 4 construction with fully removable sides so there will be easy access under the stand. I just started building the stand, just got the base done. I'm still undecided on the height but I am thinking 38 inches, which would be 2 inches higher than the stock stand.

That is a nice looking stand. I had a tank that was sitting on a 42" stand and I loved it. It isn't for everyone, but I really liked that stand/tank combo. I like the finish of this stand you are modeling after. I am about to build a stand myself and will incorporate magnets to take panels/doors off the stand.
