Flow in a 8 Gal Nano Cube

New to the Forum, long time reefer, newbie Nano guy...

Recently built up a nice Innovative Marine Nuvo 8. Not happy with the flow from just the return pump. Put the spin stream on it, still nothing to brag about. Was going to order a Hydor Koralia Nano Evolution 240 mph for it.

- Anyone using one on a 10 gal or less tank, if so how do you like it?

- I'm thinking an 8 gallon cube might be too small for a wave controller, thoughts? If yes, recommended model that won't break the bank?

- Also looked at the Jebeo RW-4 set-up, but looked a like it would be a little too much even at the lowest setting for an 8. Anyone use it on an 8 cube?

Have a lots of Zoos, anemone, and couple softies, plus 2 clown fish.

Appreciate some feed back.

I have the 10g. The pump was no good, it barely moved the water and definitely not my spin stream.

I upgraded to the maxijet 900 and with the spin stream, the flow is great. Without the spin stream on, I'd go down to the maxijet 600.

The 240 in my 8g biocube is perfect. The only problem I have is it makes a very liner flow pattern, so the corals are always moving the same way and debris builds up due to it being so uniform. I would recommend find a way to use a pacemaker or something similar to cause variations in the flow pattern.

BTW the 240 kicks out more power then you think and you cannot adjust it. Took me awhile to find a spot where the flow wasn't to high for my Xenia.

My Xenia have very long stocks due to being push/pulled so much in one direction IMO. You can check my tank out in my signature :)

For the 900, was that plug and play with the stock return line?

RW 4 works great in my 8 gallon tank. This is a great option gives you more control than the the stock controller and the price is great. http://www.ebay.com/itm/JEBAO-RW-4P-Wifi-Wavemaker-Aquarium-Pump-Aqualink-S1-Controller-PP4-RW4-Reef-/262266409870?hash=item3d104bd38e:g:7LoAAOSwyjBW2bof you can use a varible voltage power supply instead of the 24v it comes with if you feel its to much flow.

The maxijet was easy to use, i just put it in, attached the tubing the tank came with, then attached my spin stream. No adjustments.

If i take my spin stream off the flow is far too rough on my corals so without the spin stream i would need the maxijet600

The pain was finding a pump that fit in the 10g chamber.

Its a shame such beautiful and $$$ tanks come with such poor working pumps.

That's a good idea. I saw some you tube videos/forum posts of guys using the RW 4 on an 8 and it was a little much from what I can tell and what they were saying. You have a link to a plug and play variable power supply, thats a good idea?

For my CAD 8 gallon, I use a maxijet 600 with hydor flow. I also used a koralia 240 but it was getting too strong for my rics and acans. I also have finer sand so I needed to put a layer of argonite sand on the corners where the flow was the strongest.

The mj 600 puts put plenty of flow for the 8 gallon though.

I agree Scubapooch. Maxi 600 is perfect for 8g, plenty of flow and using the koralia spinner or the spin stream really gives the tank a nice flow.

I can imagine with the added ph that your tank had a mini tornado going on. That happens if I take the spin stream off...could rip my frogspawn in no time
