Didn't really like the height, or the price of the IM stand, so started on my own today.

hope to finish by the weekend

  • 3 weeks later...

after completing the stand, painting it gloss black, deciding i didn't like it ... sanding it completely down, and re-coating in semi-gloss black ... it is finally inside and almost ready to get wet!

need to finish up the doors and move a pair of electrical / wall light switches over this weekend and planning on a trip to the LFS for some sand and water

Doors finished and on, changed the rocks around a little, happy with everything so far. Thinking a watertest and maybe some cleanup crew this weekend.

went to the LFS store this morning just to browse around, but left with a couple guys to try and get things moving along.

2) mexican red leg hermits

2) blue leg hermits

2) nassarius snails

when i got home i noticed about 25-30 white strands of hair-like stuff clinging to rocks and randomly floating around?? looked around the net and they seem to be typical on new tanks, but no one really gave a definite answer as to what they were?

regardless, the crabs have annihilated all of them in about 2 hours

Got my control board mounted up and everything stuck to it today. Need to pick up more paint to touch up the holes for the cords, but I am happy with it

Buy some desk grommets, you will be much happier with the aesthetics than painting the cut out holes, trust me.

checked out another LFS today.

water test looked pretty good so figured I would add a little more to the tank:

2) more Mexican Red Leg'ed Hermits

a HUGE Emerald Crab

and a pretty cool Banggai Cardinal ** first fish!!

lol. I've been to both of those stores. My parents live in Westchase and they go to Coral Corral all the time. Marine Warehouse is a bit more oldschool. Coral Corral has some insane display tanks.

i like Coral Coral, and the guys that work there best, actually went there first for the water test and hoping to grab just some Trochus snails, but they didn't have any so figured i'd try MW. They didn't either but i kinda liked this Cardinal lol
