IM Nuvo 30L reef build work in progress

Hi,

New to this forum. I bought a IM Nuvo 30L tank about a month ago but I'm yet to get it up and running. Just wanted to post a thread so I can keep you updated and ask any questions as I'm new to marine.

So far I've bought the tank and stand, Current Marine Orbit LED light, Eheim Jager 100W heater, test kits and a few other bits of filter stuff. Still need to get a skimmer/reactor (open to suggestions), and I'll be getting it cycling in the next few weeks (again suggestions as to the method will be appreciated).

So far I've leak tested it with no problems and had the light running to test how it looked above water. Love the light as it has day and night cycles and is a great colour. As its only a shallow tank it should support soft corals and lps but it recommends 2 units if you intend to keep sps.

Like I said I will probably be using this to ask any questions I have, and any suggestions will be appreciated as to equipment or methods.

Thanks for reading.

I am following because this is my dream tank. I wanna see what you do with it. IM makes a skimmer that fits right in the back perfectly and if you choose to go with live rock make sure you give the tank plenty of time to cycle.

I am also about to setup a 30L so I will be along for the ride. The reviews on the IM skimmer are pretty bad and id suggest checking out the cad pls-50 elite.

Do you plan on running the dual filter socks? I think I am going to run the media basket on one side and filtersock on the other and just swap it out every few days.

Thanks for the replies.

I've also heard bad stuff about the IM skimmer, even though it fits perfectly in the back. Its also pretty pricey.

Just ordered a Smart ATO micro along with ROX carbon and an Accudrip for acclimation. I think i'm gonna go ahead and order the Tunze 9001 skimmer. From what I've heard its a great little skimmer and at a good price. Anyone have any opinions or experience on this?

Funnily enough it didn't come with the dual filter socks, just the media baskets along with the sponges. I bought a huge sheet of filter floss which i'm just gonna DIY into some filter socks and then just throw them once they've expired.

  • 4 months later...

Hey,

Just thought I'd give a quick update for anyone interested.

Tanks now about 4 or 5 months old. It was cycled using dr tims one and only and dry Marco Rock. 2 clowns were added the same day.

About 2 weeks after I added two blue sapphire damsels and have been adding bits of coral since. Got rasta, Green Bay and fire ice zoas, a white/green mushroom I don't know the name of, torch coral, frogspawn and gsp.

Here's a picture.

Hey looking good so far.

Did you end up getting the Tunze 9001... how's it working? If you haven't got a skimmer yet, maybe look into the Tunze 9004 it works well in my IM 40. If your tank fits the IM Ghost Skimmer Medium then it should hold the 9004 in one of the overflow chambers.

I also have the IM Ghost Skimmer (M), it works but not as well as the Tunze 9004. Build quality on Tunze products is far superior.
