Lifer
I have had a new tank episode of hair algae that is completely under control. I have managed to spot clean all my rocks, and sand with manual removal, water changes, and peroxide dips. The only thing left is my pencil urchin that has it growing on its spines like a hippie hairdo! How do I remove this algae from his spines? Link to comment
Learn It
Thats awesome. Did that guy do work on your algae situation or what? Link to comment
Lifer
Thats awesome. Did that guy do work on your algae situation or what? He's a beast. Eats like a champ. Helped get the tank and rocks clean for sure. Kind of clumsy and knocks stuff over but very entertaining. I've been trying to secure a snail on his back to eat the algae though! Link to comment
LeCharlesMuhDickens
I've got the same thing going on with an emerald crab, little dude has an algae mullet. I've tried to remove it but he gets feisty, maybe it will go away on its own. Link to comment
bob115
My tuxedo urchin gets full of bits of crap all the time. I'm not sure how touchable pencil urchins are, but I just pick it off by hand when it gets bad. For hair algae maybe get a cheap toothbrush and scrub a little? Link to comment

Thought I might give him a comb over and call him "The Donald"! His is trying to take over the tank! Link to comment
Pocket_Tamales
Just a thought (I'm definitely no expert), but could you try sucking up the algae with a turkey baster? Again, I have no idea if that will stress the animal, but you might be able to get most of it without touching him. Link to comment
