Rpc07
I just want to start by thanking herbie for helping me measure his skimmer. So long story short you can "shoe horn" this new skimmer into the second chamber with minor modification and it will also fit with the intank media basket just need to remove the lip between chamber 1-2 as if you were installing a tunze 9001. So far my only issue is micro bubbles but I'm hoping that will go away when the skimmer breaks in. My water level is at a constant 8.5 inches and I'm running the skimmer wide open at the moment. I will need to make a slight modification on the rear chamber cover but it will close fully. The last picture makes the skimmer cup look likes its taller then the lid but it sits about 1/4" below it. 1 Quote Link to comment

Rpc07
What modifications did you have to make to get the lid to close? There is a lip on the under side of the rear cover that needs to be trimmed down. I haven't done it yet I ran out of time today I'll post some pics tomorrow when I do it. It's very minor shouldn't take more then 5 minutes with a Dremel and a sanding bit. Quote Link to comment

Not sure about those tanks but if any "full size" skimmer is going to fit it will be this one has the smallest foot print I have seen. 1 Quote Link to comment

Herbie
Whew ................I am glad that worked for you. I was nervous it was such a tight tolerance , it might not quite fit. Glad it fit ! Nice job on the custom hood work .and rear chamber alterations ! Herbie awesome! Herbie actually sold me his since he plans on only keeping corals Yea, I finally came to the realization that I really didnt need a skimmer for my coral only tank. I dont have a single fish in my reef , hence no fish feeding. I dont need a skimmer ! It just happened to be your lucky day when I took it out of my sump to measure it for Rpc07 ! Decided, I just wasnt going to put it back in . It was the best little skimmer I had going for my small tank though ..................you will love it ! Oh and BTW .............you should have it by now . Says it was delivered today ! Quote Link to comment

The skim is starting to get a little darker but it's still breaking in. i just ordered a reefer 170 this morning so this will be transferring over to the new tank. 1 Quote Link to comment

gremdeezy
hey can anyone help me out and detail what modifications to the skimmer were required to fit it in the back of the cube?? Quote Link to comment
Water Dog
The air silencer was detached from the collection cup lid and rested over his InTank media basket to provide clearance to close the maintenance access lid. Also the raised ridges on that access lid were also cut off so the area right above the skimmer’s collection cup was perfecty flat so that when the lid was closed, the cup laid flush against the lid and was able to close properly. gremdeezy
Thanks waterdog. its interesting how it still fits in the back of the biocube compartment since the compartment is 3" x 9" and the footprint of the k2 is 4.75" by 3.5??? the compartment i want to squeeze it into is 3.5" x 4" or if that doesnt work 3.5 x 6" Quote Link to comment
zachjohnson65
Is the skimmer width 3.5” or is it possible it could be a 1/16” smaller? Looks like I need 3 7/16” to slide in the rear chamber of RSM130. Sorry for slight high jacking toward RSM. Quote Link to comment
