Nemesis Frags - Those fragging Decepticons. Frag build.

Frag Tank Build Progress.

frags are starting to dominate Nemesis III and I need to get something set up to accommodate them. Since I got my nanobox on my display, I have an older DIY fixture sitting idle. I should ask dave how much it would cost for a nice bit of cable, drivers, bluefish (all the stuff except the light) to wire in my own LED's in my original fixture. I keep trying to put in LED's to the current bucks, and I think it is in series but they get dimmer.

So I spent the day cleaning the AC110 - which had 5 years of coraline build-up, grit, grime and in general refugium was in ill repair. Pulled it apart, soaked it, cleaned the tubes with vinegar, I am using egg crate on the bottom as I plan to put live rock inside. Maybe some macro.

This is a new 10 gallon. The one I intended to use I cracked trying to cut it down, and I have not had word from the glass shop about the cutter replacement. SO I said frag-it and got a new tank. Aren't transformers based cursing so reef?

I love it.

Frag as a gamer: Damn I got fragged

Frag as a transformer: Go get fragged

Frag as a Reefer: got some frags?

I used egg crate for a lid, I need to raise the lamp a bit. But the true problem I have right now is HOW do I set the shelves up?

One idea I had was to remove the floor, and use that to make three shelves.

Keep the floor and make three shelves.

I am thinking going back to front lengthwise is best. But what are the thoughts from anyone else?

As for the tank, I will be using plasti-dip to make the back and perhaps part of the sides black. I may spray the bottom too. (the outside bottom, not inside) I recall someone spraying a speckle coat to look like sand worked well. If I did that then a layer of plasti-dip... I intend this to be a bare bottom. I want a little container of sand for some things like anthelia.

So any input for those experienced with frag tanks. ALL of my equipment will likely be in the tank, under the racks. I think hte AC110 may be enough flow that the hydor won't be needed, but we shall see.

Stuff I hope to obtain for the frag tank this week.

Plasti-dip

Speckled stone spray paint in sand colour for my bottom. (tank bottom not mine!)

Live rock to cycle in a bucket - as well as treat with FWE- About 2lb)

Heater - Aqueon 50WATT

More filter media bags.

Ac110 is setup now, with the dividers siliconed in. as I stated the live rock will go in there. I intend to seed the rock with Mysis shrimp from my display, because I really want a good supply of these to provide live food for my fish-things. I will do more research into growing mysids.

And my frag rack. I hope to have other options. A flat area for either a sand container or other rack options.

If you don't have fish you dont need a bunch of filtration if you do a regular weekly water changes. Maybe a couple chunks of LR.

I may use it to Quarantine fish from time to time,

I have a few chunks of live rock, I am keeping in the filter. I am actually hoping to seed the tank with mysis shrimp so as to have a breeding population. it will be a refugium of sorts, but unlike other times, I am not using sand. I find it kept grinding. I got my plasti-dip paint. for the back of my tank. Speckled paint for the bottom.

I am QTing the live rock, I wish to rid it of flatworms if it has any..

Frag tank, and the QT tank both got similar treatments. sand sprayed bottom and plastidip to seal it and the back.... only problem with the QT was I accidentally peeled the rubber off - it stuck back down though.

Frag tank is being filled with RODI - I will mix salt in as soon as Its filled enough. I do not have enough buckets to mix salt for it and have RODI for the other systems, I nee a bucket of that.

I also need a flush kit for my RODI.

The Quarantine Tank:

The Quarantine tank is reading .25PPM ammonia. I have added live rock from the crab tank, and changed out the filter floss from my display and the old chemi-pure bag over to the QT in hopes that the biological material are able to aid. I have also done a detoxifying dose of Prime.

If it is a problem, I will run frequent water changes in the QT of about a gallon a day,

I am, unfortunately getting the Gumdrop tomorrow and I don't want it to be in my display until I am absolutely sure it is eating. I am a little worried its not getting enough to eat where it is as it stands. Not saying they aren't caring for it, they just don't have the time to monitor it better.

That's a pretty slick little setup on the frag tank you got going. I like the textured bottom (frag tank, not yours! Lol)

Thanks. I felt for the frag (and QT) the faux sand look was best. I didn't just want bare glass. Someone else here on this forums did a textured bottom and I really liked it. I may get a better light for the frag, depending how mine holds up in such a large body of water. As much as I would get another nanobox, I probably would have to wait until canadian dollar equalises. I DO have a drilled tank in my locker room. I may consider bringing it out some day and building it up much like yours. I am so inspired by your sump.

Due to the high ammonia in the the QT tank, I will be isolating the gumdrop in my display tank in a a floating breeder thing I had kicking around.

This should be okay for a while, I have added a tiny bit of frag rack, a frag and some rock.

Frag tank is reading .25ppm

QT is reading less than .25ppm

I got reamed royally by a friend for daring to QT a fish in a guppy box in my display. But as I stated before, I felt the fish was underfed and stressed as a result, adding it to a tank with high ammonia is unfair. It is eating - which is very good. I am unable to get my stuff into the frag tank until the cycle finishes. I know i should have waited on the gumdrop, but I felt its chances would diminish as time went on.

I said its weedy. I had a malfunction with the light about 4 weeks ago. I been running blues and a crappy fluorescent light. I ordered a new heatsink from Rapid LED, and a few cree. And after week after week of not having the right drill, tap, broke tap, get new tap.. etc. etc. Its been a pain in the butt.

BUT its on the tank. Latest setback is the pots broke when I was bringing htem over. I'll just rebuild hte project box wiht the pots installed in that so its easy access.
