I want to start a 14gal biocube Reef tank but wondering if anyone on here can help with what I'm going to need to buy as well as brand names . I know it's a lot of work but any advice will help. Ive done some research but wanted more oponions and suggestions. Also a side note,I'm getting a 14 gal coralife biocube with no hood so I can get my own lighting. And perhaps go rimless. Thanks

We started with a 14 in 2012. I strongly suggest getting rid of the bioballs, sponge and the carbon filter it comes with. Bite the bullet and order at least the inTank media basket, use filter pad on top with chemi pure under (they also sell 3 large pads you can cut up to fit for under $10). Makes a huge difference. Don't forget to siphon out all 3 back chambers at least every couple of water changes - that is where the yuck collects. You will also need a powerhead in the tank for flow - depending on how much you want to spend there are a ton of choices.

It's all about how much you want to spend really, there are tons of options and upgrades, but a lot of them aren't critical to success. I've got a BC14 too and ditching all of that factory stuff in the back is a must IMO. The pump upgrade is also a great idea and doesn't cost a lot. Lighting of course is where most of the money is, there are some fantastic options that allow all kinds of control and customization, but again, it's more about want than need. A simple gooseneck and par38 bulb will do great if you don't want to drop $300 on a fixture. What are you planning on keeping?
