ZADL11
Yesterday I bought 1 snail, 1 scarlet hermit crab, and 1 emerald crab from my LFS. The snail and hermit crab are doing great and moving a lot, but the emerald crab never really moved from the moment I put him in the tank. Now he's belly up. He moves very slightly every once in a while. Is he molting or essentially dead? Link to comment
ndrobey
Did the crab ever move? In the LFS, it should have been moving before you bought it. But it is dead now. Link to comment
ZADL11
Did the crab ever move? In the LFS, it should have been moving before you bought it. But it is dead now. At the LFS he was moving. He still moves 'til this moment but it's everyone once in a while and he remains on his back. Been reading up on this and people have been saying there's a chance he is molting. Link to comment
basser1
I think he's a goner..... Get the melted butter ready (j/k). Link to comment
FlowerMama
What were your parameters before putting it in the tank?. Was it at the end of the cycle? Link to comment
basser1
Got any updates? Reason I ask is I just purchased a blood red fire shrimp a couple of days ago from my LFS. The very next day, I see what I thought was his carcass in my MP10. I thought... "WTH"?? Well after further examination, he molted, right down to his "whiskers"!! I know they molt as they grow, just didn't expect it so soon after putting it in my tank. Link to comment
FlowerMama
Many times that is what will make them molt right away. A change in conditions. Just happened to my porcelain crab. Within a few days it had molted. I hadn't see it past the first day I put it in. It was apparently hiding and molted right away. Same thing w/ mantis shrimp. Link to comment
BulkRate
Almost all my inverts (porcelain crabs & various shrimp) went through a stress molt within a day or so of acclimation. But they usually don't lie on their backs when doing so... I suspect your crab's dead/dying. Link to comment
