So I'm gonna be getting my custom shallow cube next week hopefully (26.5 x 26.x5 x 11.5). Between these 2 lights which one would you guys go for?

Thanks,

Andy

Do you use it with the Apex? If so, how is it?

Never tried it with the apex but from what I've seen it works well, I used the spectral controller and it was easy to program and get going

It's cool but that would work but softies on the outer edges of the a160 I think two would be a perfect spread, I'm doing two on my 30x12 lol

I have seen Radions and Kessils in action, and to my eyes, Kessil is the way to go. I personally have two A160we's ( one in my 10G cube and one in my 28G cube). Growth and coloration has been better than anything that I have used before after about half a year. I would suggest to see them in action personally and go from there. I made the mistake to buy an LED light that some people here said it was the best thing since sliced bread (not going to go into details) and had never seen that light in action. Once I turned it on, I didn't like it one bit no matter how much I tweaked it, so don't make that mistake. Good luck with your purchase.

Yeah thats the one thing i like the kessil. Does the radion not have a similar shimmer?

I think Radion shimmers a lot... Maybe too much with a rainbow sand bed! Lol

I have a single kessil a360 over a 24x24x12. It causes a lot of shadowing. I think if you were going to compare the two you would have to compare 2x kessil with 1x radion.

I am considering purchasing a radion at this very moment.

Yea the radions seem more like a disco ball effect lol

Do two a160we, that's what I'm doing for a 30x12, will light it up perfectly minimal shadowing

I am looking into various lights on my lagoon 25 which has similar dimensions.

Kessil a360

$400 + mounting

I love my a160. The color and the shimmer is amazing. I am not thrilled with the single point light source. I want sps and I am scared to death of shadowing.

Ai hydra 26 hd

$349 plus the 138289492 things you need to mount it.

It looks pretty impressive with 2 pucks and the app based controller. Imo the colors didnt look "real" on the hydra 26 I saw. I would need to see the hd version in person to judge.

Radion xr30 pro gen 3

$750 + mounting

Ive seen these in person and they look pretty decent. Imo better than the hydra 26 with similar spread. Not sure if its literally twice as good as the hydra though comparing price.

Nanobox duo

$450-500

This one is on my short list. The spectrum is excellent and with bluefish you get great controllability. The price is good as well.

Ati 4x24 t5

$350

No shadowing ever. No shimmer though :(. Have to hang it though.

Nanobox ati hybrid

$750ish

Awesome spectrum, awesome coverage. Need to hang it.

Imo the best deal is the nanobox duo. I just need some t5's in my life.

I would love an ATI but not a fan of having to switch 4,6 or 8 bulbs every 6-12 months.

In terms of SPS growth and color, do you guys find any differences between the 2 lighting?

Quick question about the kessil. Do I need the Kessil controller to configure the light or can apex unit configure it?

no apex will control it

I am running a 360 on my Nuvo 20 and I do not feel it covers the sides very well. It shadows real easy but the shimmer is great. I have zoas on a frag rack on the side at about 4 inches under the water line and some are reaching for light. I love the light as it does not give a disco ball effect like a Radion does. I know that one as I had a XR15 also. I think if I was to do it again I would go with the Nanobox Duo and be done with it on this size of tank.

But as stated a ATI would be the best scenario to go with. I like the LEDs but I think the T5s just offer up a little more.

How high above do you have the lights above your tank?
