Tengareef Posted February 12, 2016 Share Posted February 12, 2016 Purchased a liverock online, Seems like they've used cement to join 2pc together to get a unique shape. I'm totally fine with that as I'm planning to cover that area with some crushed rocks. But What it really bothers me is the disgusting surface of the rock. Is it normal for live rocks to have such a surface or something is wrong with the rock? Never seen something like this at LFS or online... the rock doesn't smell nasty at all, kinda smell pretty good like a fresh sea urchin. The shop told me it's done with curing but should I do my own curing? I'm being really skeptical because the rock is pretty huge , 27cm and around 20lbs and got this thing for around 8USD. I'm residing in Thailand but all of my market prices are from the state, so maybe the price is different. Link to comment

Did some studies and learned that it is recommended to put in atleast 1live rock to seed the dry rock, so i'm gonna use this as the seed and throw in more dry rocks. My tank will be arriving in 2weeks, so right now, this rock is sitting in a bucket of salt water with power head and heater adjusted to 77F . Am i doing anything wrong? Link to comment

If it will fit, you can add dry rock to the bucket too so they start to be seeded with good bacteria. Just check the salinity / sg every few days and add fresh water to keep it around 35ppt / 1.025 Link to comment
