Matt's Synergy Nano Reef

I've been working on this project for the last couple months and it's finally time to finish the project. I received the synergy tank from Dave today, along side 2 v3 arrays which will accompany two t5 bulbs in the fixture I'm building. I built the sump and stand over Christmas break and luckily all of my measurements matched up with the tank. I built the overflow with the intent of putting it in the right hand corner but after playing around with the concept I found that I really like the way it looks in the center. I'm going with a clear back design for a minimalist look. Light hangar and return will all be behind wherever the overflow is.

I have a pretty clear idea of what I want the tank to turn into but we will see if that actually happens. The plan is minimalist rock work with mostly deep water acros from my main display tank.

Anyone have an opinion on what overflow placement looks better? I'm really leaning towards the center at this point.

I will try to update as the build continues.

Thanks for looking.

Matt

I can't wait to see this come along; looks awesome so far.

I kind of prefer the corner placement myself, but I tend to like asymmetrical design better. Do you know which you prefer, as a whole?

Made some progress on the tank this weekend. I decided to go with a center overflow with the return ran up and out the overflow. I also finished up the light fixture but I still need to finish the enclosure for the drivers. The light hanger came out rather bulky but I think it still fits in with the overall look I was going for. I hope to finish up the remaining loose ends tomorrow and then get it wet later this week.

I was able to make some more progress on the setup today and finally filled it up. I still need to finish up a few small things like cleaning up wiring and installing a few other things but I really wanted to get the tank cycling, so I glued up the rock for the aquascape and filled it up. For filtration I decided to try out the Pico Skim 2 and a little media reactor that I built out of spare parts I had laying around. I'm really happy with the way the light turned out and the color blending of the nanobox arrays really impressed me. I normally start my tanks with MB7 for cycling but I run Zeovit on my display tank so I might just start this system with zeobak and KZ products instead.

Thanks for looking.
