Custom Beam Reviewed

Hello All,

Here I'm reviewing my recent custom build from Dave. This review may not be applicable to many of you here, since this is both a nano aquarium site and a reef keeping site. My tank is a newly set up 48" x 18" x 20" rimless freshwater aquarium. I first contacted Dave about getting a custom Quad with a Nature Series lid for this build. Having had NanoBox lights on both my reef tanks (Duos) I was familiar with Dave's work. Working through the process I had decided the Quad would be serious overkill for my build. I'll be keeping mostly shy South American fish that don't appreciate blinding light. I then emailed Dave about getting two white 12" Beams somehow attached together in the middle and wired to a single BlueFish controller. As usual, Dave's response was quick and friendly. He said he could this no problem and we were set. He sent the invoice, I paid and the process was started. The wait was very long for how excited I was. None of this was Dave's fault. Things came up, crazy weather happened, but a few weeks later Dave shipped my light. I was well aware that this was not in Dave's standard product line and would take some extra time. After a week of waiting for my USPS tracking to update we determined that USPS had indeed lost my package! Dave's response was quick. He quickly worked up another build and shipped it FedEx. His service was above and beyond. The light looks great. I'm sorry for the quick and poor iPhone images below. If anyone is interested I'll try to get some more professional photos with my DSLR. The small and thin size of this light looks amazing over this rimless tank. It produces a great amount of light for a 4' tank! Would it be bright enough for a high tech planted tank with C02? No, probably not. I do believe it is plenty bright enough for a low tech tank with lower light plants. The color rendition is perfect for a freshwater tank. The combination of LEDs provides a broad spectrum. The reds and rust colors in my rocks pop just as much as the greens in the plants above the water. I can't wait to see the colors of the fish. For my tank it is absolutely perfect. The Bluefish integration is seamless. One plug, one driver box that holds the Bluefish and everything else. It was a long wait and a lost package (sorry Dave!), but I'm a happy customer once again!

Devin,

Glad it all worked out. I have had a few hair pullers this year but glad this one got to you safely. Dont forget the sweet wood sides. ;)

The overall look is AMAZING. Get a few nice pictures and I will gladly share with the world.

Best regards!

-Dave

Thanks everyone. I'll try to get some better pictures Dave as things progress. With this being a peninsula setup it is difficult capture how good it looks in the room. Everything in the background detracts from the overall look. I may try to hang a white sheet behind the tank and see if I can get some good, clutter free shots.
