So I took in a 14g biocube some time ago, and moved some live rock around not too long ago and maybe I didn't pay too much attention to the rock color at the time but am just realizing this now. Am new so can't exactly tell if this is diatoms or if it's normal at all.

I also upgraded to the steves mediabasket, and have a cobalt mj-900 on its way if that's of any help

Have been cleaning it slowly through water changes, this belonged to a friend whom couldn't keep it so I've been giving it maintenance every week until fully clean. But should I clean to the bottom or sift just on top ?

Diatoms....

I'm new to this all but through all my reading thought it would be diatoms. Any recommendations as to what I should do?

Clean all of it! In a small tank a uncleaned SB doesn't do any good IMO.

Datioms will clear up once the tank has been cleaned and all those extra nutrients have been removed. I would recommend getting a P04 test kit and seeing if you have high phosphates since they promote datioms growth also.
