Best flake/pellet for fish and coral?

I keep a 28 gallon at my office, and due to travel and weekends, have no choice but to resort to automatic feeder on those days.

When I'm here, the tank get's a frozen array of foods, but when I'm gone I leave the feeder on.

In your opinion, which pellet or flake is the best option for reef tanks and fish?

Thanks in advance! -Jon

+1 on New Life Spectrum! That's what I feed my clowns, even though one is starting to only eat when I feed my homemade food...

What kind of fish do you have?

It might be the krill, but everything goes insane for the Omega One pellets (there's also whole herring and other great stuff though). Fish, shrimp, crab, corals, snails, etc. Even in the freshwater tank. They're still enthusiastic about the NLS (and sometimes Fauna Marin, when I remember to use it), but there's no competition if the omega one pellets are in the water.

I might have to try it since my clown is getting picky :( Idk though, I know a lot of people have issues with getting their fish to eat pellets when they know they can get the good stuff!

Might depend on the pellets. I know once I started feeding frozen regularly, the fauna marin stopped being popular and that's when NLS got knocked down a notch. But everything still hunts after the Omega One pellets!

Good to know, I'll have to give that a shot then.

My staples have been Ocean Nutrition Formula One, and Formula Two flakes. How much you feed and how fast pellets sink might also be a determining factor. You might also need a feeding ring to keep the food from being filtered out before it sinks.

You might not "need" an automatic feeder. Depending on your livestock (and the quality and quantity of live rock), skipping weekend feedings might be an option. Then pre-measure meals and let an office mate feed the tank when you are travelling.

I feed my fish Hikari Marine S pellets, Hikari mysis (frozen) & Hikari brine shrimp (frozen). I feed my corals Ocean Free Cyclops (frozen), crab/fish roe (self-harvested & frozen) and Hikari Coral Delite. I used to feed my corals Nano Reef Roids by Polylab and that was good as well.

Thanks all for the feedback.

I'm using New Life Spectrum Marine Formula pellets in the auto feeder for weekends, and am keeping the dose small.

During the week it's a mix of frozen reef frenzy, frozen PE Mysis, Brine, Cyclops, and everything gets some silicon while it thaws.

Current fish stock is: two clowns, one royal gramma, one yellow watchman goby. I had a few wall surfers and haven't picked out any new fish yet.

Let me know how the automatic feeder goes! I'll be on a two week vacation in April and plan use one while I'm gone.

I actually love it, and have left this tank for more than a week due to travel and holidays. I've been using it for just over a year, and have never had an issue with the feeder itself - just wanted to make sure that when I do have to use it, I have the best pellet/flake possible. :)
