24'' T5 fixture too short for 36'' length tank?

Would a 24'' T5 fixture too short to light up a 36'' wide tank? I have a great offer on a ATI Sunpower fixture and just wanted thoughts. Currently running one single Kessil A360W on it.

depends on your aquascape and corals you keep. if your aquascape is center based and you keep all the heavy light depended corals within the range of the 24" fixture it should be fine but you will have 6" each side that you can only place lower light corals like some LPS and most Softies.

I am currently planning a 36" wide tank as well and I own a 24" 6 bulb ATI fixture and a 360we. what I plan on doing for the tank is getting a second 360we so I can place the ATI fixture in the middle and then place the 360we on each side . I will be running the 360we mostly through the day and then have the ATI fire up for around 4-6 hours a day to keep the SPS happier. might be a little overkill but eh. lol two 160we might work just as good but since I already have the 360we...

Yes, it's fine. here is a photo of a 36" Sunpower with four lamps over my 48" 80g tank.

How was your coverage on the outer edges where there was not any direct light? I plan on keeping SPS right in the center of my scape and just fill in LPS on the outer portions.

Depends on the LPS species you want to keep. Higher light-tolerant species like Euphyllia you'll want to keep in the middle where there is more light, but things like acans and meat corals will do well on the outsides.
