Fluval Spec V Pump Upgrade

aqueon aq600 fits. Pull cover off, use a file on a nub and it drops right in.

saweeet. Looks just like the mini jet 606 with a different knob. If made in Italy it comes out of the same factory.

The Mini Jet 606 still exits under a different name, just at a 220 volt configuration. Still working to bring that here to the USA at 110 volts.

Fits, do this:

  • Remove front cover and pop off flow dial.
  • Using a razor blade remove the half moon piece
  • Remove rear black plastic cover
  • Install pump

Ok so I did this mod this weekend and now the overflow section is significantly drained to where it is making a bunch of noise should I fill with more water to compensate for higher flow. I have a in tank skimmer and basket in my spec. Just afraid about a power outage.

I know this is kind of old but I'd be thankful if someone answered my questions. So I've been running the aqueon 600 for a week now and it is pretty loud compared to the fluval pump. I've tried putting vaseline on it and putting sponge under it to reduce sound.

Is this how your aqueon pumps are or am I just being impatient and not allowing it to break in?

Also if this continues, does anyone know if the eheim compact 600 pump will fit? It's 1.36 x 2.15 x 2.03 inches and also 160 gph but I have not seen anyone use it or mention it.

Thanks

In the grand scheme of tank noise my air whisper 10 for my protein skimmer is louder then the aqueon 600. I'm also running a rio 200 for a hob refugium along with a wave making pump. So just a single aqueon is almost nothing compared to the hum I'm producing with all that.

Would love to know the answer to this also, I prefer to have an eheim instead of an aqueon.
