davy jones
With all the different 2 parts out there, which does everyone find preferential? ESV B-ionic? Seachem Fusion? BRS 2 part? Brightwell? DIY? Also what is the difference between 2 part and balling method? I know 2 part is more popular in the US and balling is more popular for our Friends across the pond, but can someone explain the difference in how it is done? Link to comment
jabeuy
I use ESV B-ionic. The small containers it comes in are easy to use, just open up and go. But now I'm using the 1 gallon jugs. These ones you need to add RODI to and then shake. So...a little more work lol. I have a 200g+ tank, so now I'm thinking of going DIY once the costs start to skyrocket. Link to comment
HarryPotter
I like B-ionic. 1g containers last a LONG time in my 45g with lots of SPS and clams. If I had a huge tank I perhaps would use the BRS ones but in that case you have to mix it yourself and do measuring. Complicated. Link to comment
davy jones
Thanks for the input guys! right now im leaning towards Seachems fusion or ESV B-ionic, the latter seems to be much more popular on this and other forums! Link to comment
JavaJacketOC
I took Harry's lead and have been using B-Ionic with my tank. Although I'm not dosing much I like the easy of use. It seems pretty potent as well...It looks like I am only needing to dose about 15 ML of each per day to maintain a lightly stocked 70 gallon tank. Link to comment
davy jones
Anyone have experience using Seachems Reef fusion? If i cant find anyone it looks like ESV will be what i go with! Link to comment
Jwilken02
Not to get off track but would you suggest the B-Ionic for a nano tank (say less than 30g) and can you manually dose this or is it just impractical to manual dose? I made a noob mistake and let the LFS guy into selling me Red Sea Max A and B and have heard mixed reviews on it. Currently just randomly adding the recommended amount maybe every 3-4 days Link to comment

Currently just randomly adding the recommended amount maybe every 3-4 days I'm using the B-Ionic on a 15 gallon. I've contemplated getting a doser, but so far it's been easy enough to just put in 5ml every other day. With small demand, it doesn't have to be a daily chore since the levels don't get out of range that quickly. The only thing I've felt is that it makes vacation more of a logistical challenge, which is why I'm contemplating automation or using kalk when I'm away. Link to comment
Jwilken02
good point! Maybe I will start by dosing Monday and Thursday's since my tank has very little usage right now. Only a handful of corals I just want everything to stabilize before I start adding too much. Link to comment

Currently just randomly adding the recommended amount maybe every 3-4 days I use the red sea products currently for manual dosing, However i am switching to a doser and 2 part as it will be too expensive to continue using red sea, currently i am doing ~12 ml a day for alk and its not keeping up. So im thinking 15+, if i can math correctly thats a bottle of the stuff every month.. and at 15 a pop thats a lot pretty quick. They work very well but you have to test your levels, NEVER dose anything blindly. Link to comment

Currently just randomly adding the recommended amount maybe every 3-4 days Definitely. I used the smaller bottles when I had my 36g still going. After 6months, I was nowhere near even finishing the bottle. I dosed manually as well, sometimes missing a day or 2 on the weekends. Link to comment
North Borders
I picked up a pair of the BRS dosing pumps and their 2-part (and Mg+) kit on a black Friday sale. Have been very happy so far! Link to comment
4x5
I use Seachem Reef Fusion. It does the job. Link to comment
olemanwinter
I've always used Reef Code A and B. No complaints. I also use homemade plain Kalk topoff. Link to comment

CronicReefer
I personally use sodium carbonate from the pool supply store for raising alkalinity. Cost me $7 for 1800 grams and 5 grams raises the dkH of my 75gallon by one point. I use Brightwell Calcion and Magnesion for supplementing calcium and magnesium as I don't like mixing powders but they do sell powder versions that will make you more for you buck. Link to comment
Tamberav
I use the BRS stuff for the 40 gallon and Part A and B for the 5g. Both work fine but I will try the ESV stuff when I run out of BRS stuff because, why not? I tend to try different products till I find what I like! I do wish they would tell us what is in ESV though... B-Ionic Calcium Buffer System also provides all other important major, minor, and trace elements in the proper ratios to duplicate the composition of natural seawater. Which elements? how much?
