Bought this coral (not sure the name) maybe its a yuma the guy said. But on the side of the frag plug was this red small bubble cluster. (There might be a tiiiiny small green ball/mouth in the middle but cant tell).

Plse help me id it. It looks like a small coral. Some of the balls are a slight purple tinge..

I didnt want to throw it out so super glued it to the little rock : )

Thanks.

Any thoughts at all would be most helpful. Just wondering if its risky to keep it to see what it grows into over time. Or just remove it completly to be safe.

Looks like they may be majano anemones. Can be pests, but not all that bad. Do some research and make your own decision. Plenty of people will prolly tell you to save while others will tell you to rid them.

What are we looking at? The maroon coral? Looks like some sort of ric to me - yuma most likely. Or are we looking at something other than the maroon coral...

Thanks guys. May be a majano but not sure. I am just going to remove it to be safe.

Very dissapointed the yuma seems to be melting away. There a big hole on top on the left side and its not opening up at all. Should i leave it in or wait till it dies as i was reading sometimes lps or softies are not completly dead and can come back.

Heres a updated pic.

I'd say keep it for now. It really doesn't look like a majano from that picture, and at least then you get one coral for your money. :) The other one looks like it's in bad shape. Fingers crossed it pulls through.

Okay thanks guys. Ill keep the little red cluster in and update when its bigger.

Definitely not a majano. It may be a Vegeta though so be careful!

A prince, powerful, great hair. Ill take it lol..

Can anyone advise why my yuma is dying so i dont do it again. Is it becuase i took it off the rock it was on? The frag plug was nasty with algea etc so took the small rock the yuma was on off the plug. However the rock broke in half under the yuma. So i slowly peeled it off the 2 peices of broken rock. Looms like it had a foot (could be wrong for sure) but was very careful. Then super glued it to a fresh piece of rock. Placed it at the bottom of the tank.

A lot of times forcefully pulling soft corals off of rocks and plugs can damage their tissue and eventually kill them. Keep in mind though every species is going to have different tolerance levels when it comes to handling, placement, and fragging. That being said I literally cut the heads off my shrooms with scissors to frag them and they always grow back.

I would need a bit more information about your tank to accurately diagnose what could be the problem. (How old is the tank, whats your maintenance schedule, what are you dosing, what are you feeding, nitrates, phosphates, nitrites, ammonia, calcium, magnesium, PH, Alkalinity) I know its a lot but it really could be any of those reasons or a combination of them.

Yes crudely ripping a yuma in half then pissing it off further by supergluing it down to some place it doesn't want to be could certainly peeve it if you know what I mean.

Whenever I rip mushrooms off a rock, I just end up with more mushrooms :P I would just leave it, I have had shrooms grow back from tiny specs of flesh. Maybe it will recover. If not, the red coral looks like a yuma too me too.

I had bought a yuma that arrived unattached. It never reattached to anything and slowly melted away despite my best efforts to protect it. I think coming off the rock can be pretty traumatic for them - especially in combination with shipping/transport/reacclimation/etc.

Yeah lesson learnt. Will be more careful. Saw some good vids on youtube on how to properly remove items off frag plugs. Tank is about 40 days old. Cycled fishless till ammonia and nitrite at zero even after redosing amonia to 3ppm. All seemed well. Got couple tester corals like gsp, xenia and a cool goniopora. All doing great. Ph been a little low so added a bit of buffer. The yuma is at least not decaying anymore. Its tiny bit hanging in there. The cleaner shrimp kept picking at it when it was metling away. But now its leaving it alone thankfully. Will hopefully bring it back to full health.

Hi guys, just as an update, here is a pic of the little red cluster that has changed in colour. Its not as contrasty as this in real life, and has a couple small spots of green as well. (ps it looks big in the photo, but its tiny in real like, sorta like the size of your fingernail.)
