Blue Watchman Goby gone missing

Jut looking for some advice. A week ago I bought a BWG and I have not seen him since the day after placing him in my tank (Fluval Spec V). I have been checking water parameters the last couple of days looking for an ammonia spike indicating dead/rotting fish. No ammonia spike yet. Should I be worried about him. I don't want to dismantle my tank to find him, but I am starting to worry. Any advice would be appreciated. Also any advice about when the best time to look for him is. It is impossible for him to get into the back area of the tank due to the lid. TIA

My yellow watchman was MIA for a month. It is not unusual for a week to go by without seeing him. I got him a pistol shrimp and now the 2 make almost daily appearances when I feed.

Do you have a top on the tank ? Could have jumped. I once had the lid off of one of my tanks for all of 5 minutes a few days later i found me green clown goby 4 feet from the tank under a dresser. Anything like a maxi mini nem in the tank ? They will make a fish disappear if it gets to close.

It has a lid, no nems. He's the only fish.

2015 Hide and Go Seek Champion ?

I would give him a few days. If by then he doesn't show and food isn't luring him out

You could assume he didn't make it. If you have a cleanup crew they should make quick work of anything that has died. I hope he's okay !

Do you have a turkey baster ? Maybe blow some water into the holes of your rock work and see if he comes out.

I do, and I will try this. Great tip! Thank you

A week missing in a 5g? Ugh I don't like those odds. They can disappear for some time but since the fish is new that's odd.

Dim the lights and leave the room for a while. Next time you go into the room don't turn on the lights just carefully look at the tank from a distance and carefully inch closer. Gobies do tend to be sensitive to the vibrations of an oncoming person as well as sudden visual changes. So they dart out of view quickly.

Still, in a 5g It shouldn't be that hard to find it's burrow...

I've been sitting here for about 45 min watching his "secret lair". All the room lights are off. He is alive, but he just pokes his head out enough I can see just his eyes. He is very skidish. I need to find him a shrimp friend ASAP. Thank you all for the tips, I really appreciate it!

My YWG didn't come out for a week. He is still shy but he's so used to me sticking my hand in the tank or watching the tank, he doesn't swim away anymore when I'm there. Got him trained to eat from the baster too.

great news! I think I used the wrong wording in my previous posting - a new fish, especially a goby, will hide at first - but really that's a good thing... I suppose my thought was that since it's a 5g there are going to be limited hiding spots so it would stand to reason that if you wanted to find the goby you could...

I can't say for sure whether a shrimp would coax the little guy out more - but the shrimp/goby dynamic is also really cool to observe, esp in a smaller tank!

He is under the bottom left rock. Also I think the reason I don't see him much is because the divider wall in my tank is crawling with pods at night. I don't know for sure but I think they are breeding in the back area of my tank. The divider wall is about 2" from the opening to the goby's hideout.

Yep, he's probably munching on them as they swim around. My goby only gets spot fed now and then (whenever I can find him--he changes caves nightly it seems), however he's feeding on my guess the huge copepod I have right now.
