Clowns hosting brain coral

Dolomiteclay

Recommended Posts

I have had my tank setup with two small clowns for 7 months now and a nice open brain coral in there with them for about 4 months. Everything is going well but recently the clowns have decided to host the brain coral. It's not enjoying the added attention and I'm concerned that further hosting may lead to worse things happening.

Has anyone on the board here ever had this happen before?

Yes, in my last tank (29gal) I had a nice red and green open brain. Everything was fine for a while but my small clowns decided to leave the top corner of the tank that they were hosting, and took to the brain. Brain corals in my experience are very sensitive to touch. I removed my clowns and got a new pair. Had them for a little over a year and they weren't interested in the brain.

I've noticed clownfish don't just host a coral/nem, they also host that area of the tank. To keep mine from hosting the corals I didn't want them to, I simply moved the coral as far as I could away from that area. It worked every time for me, but I did have to move it to the ther side of the tank.

My brain is totally used to it. My clown rubs up and down in the folds and it doesn't even flinch anymore. In fact I think it's bigger than ever! lol
