JCarpenter4
Hi everyone new member here! I've been reading everything on this site for over a year now while waiting for the opportunity to start a reef tank. I didn't want to start a tank until I bought a house and got all settled in. In my apartment I had a 60 gallon freshwater that I had running for a few years. During the move I broke down the tank and sold everything off. So after searching and searching I found a used IM 30 Fusion with stand on craigslist for a pretty sweet deal. I made my first order to get thing started today. - 30 lbs dry rock from reef cleaners - BRS 4 Stage Value Plus RODI - Refractometer from BRS Will be picking up sand from LFS Kept heaters from old tank to use for now. Other equipment plans but nothing is set in stone - 2x AI Prime - IM Filter socks - IM Spin Streams - InTank Media Basket (not sure what to run in it yet) - AquaMaxx WS-1 skimmer - Tunze Nano Osmolator - Master test kit (unsure which brand yet) Livestock Plans - Snowflake Clownfish pair - TBD Thats all I can think of off the top of my head for now. Pretty pumped to start cycling this tank. Thanks for reading, please post thoughts/suggestions! Link to comment
fishfreak0114
to nano-reef.com! Looks like you're off to a good start. My only advice is read, read and read some more! Link to comment
JCarpenter4
My first orders came in today. The 30lbs of rock from Reef Cleaners looks amazing. Just going to rinse them off after I get my RODI set up that also came in today. Then hopefully tomorrow i'll be able to head out to my LFS and pick up sand and salt. Still undecided on what brand of salt and type of sand I'm going to use. Pretty pumped to get this thing started. Link to comment
Normang
Since you're going reef I recommend going with the Red Sea Salt Coral Pro. Most everyone I know that uses it loves it. Its more expensive, but you won't have to dose as much when using it if you keep up on water changes. Link to comment

JCarpenter4
So a quick update. The tank is wet. I put about 25 lbs of Caribsea Ocean Direct sand in. Added some pure ammonia and a small bottle of Bio Spira to kick things off. I'll update with a pic in a bit. Was thinking about the maxspect razor, I'm assuming I would need the 27 inch model correct? Link to comment
JCarpenter4
Little update. I finally pulled the trigger on the lights and ordered the ATO. Should be in Thurs or Fri. Still have been dosing ammonia and testing during the cycle. As for the skimmer I want, Aquamaxx WS-1... looks like ill have to not use one of the returns because it has to be put in the return chamber. I'm not sure it will fit otherwise. Anyone ever use just one of the returns on this tank? Here is the FTS, don't mind the glass, or the heater. The heater is temporary and haven't needed to clean the glass yet lol. Let me know what you think... I still have one more small piece that can connect the two sides together kinda like a bridge. Just needs to be glued to make it stable. Link to comment
