Alrighty,

Protein skimmer i made seems to be working and skimming nicely.

Will upload some pics later, as soon i find my memory card adaptor.

Livestock so far:

1 small fish from local rock pool, (added 4th day of water cycling) water parameters showed it was set to put something in there.

2 hermit crabs,

3 turbos

3 nassarius

2 peppermint shrimp

1 red mushroom thing

1 orangy red zoa

1 hammer coral

1 long tentacled heliofungia

Water paramters are all at zero. Running purigen since last night.

Also found out i had a peanut worm, and a really small blue pistol shrimp that im leaving in there. When i took my camera out and zoomed in x4 to have a close look at my rock i found all these microsopic insecs running around. i think they are tiny copepods, but not sure.

And also some web making snail that I blocked with some putty, that web stuff is annoying.

Next DIY will be a cheap ATO using an air pump.

Pics of DIY protein skimmer.

it fits tightly next to the filter. if i had to make it again i would probably make slightly less wide so i can fit other things. ill probably remake in feb when i get bake from 2 weeks holidays.

skimmer under the hood.

lighting moved aside for viewing

Inlet air pipe to wooden air diffuser/stone coming from the top hose.

Outlet pipe and gets slotted through the back. Pipe can be pushed in or pulled out to make it adjustable, only becos i dont have the luxury of height to lower or raise the skimmer. My idea works pretty much the same way.

Redone my scaping. move more rock out of the sand

Do i have too much rock? 6kg of rock and maybe 6kg of sand. i bought 10kg worth and a bit less than half left stored away. pic doesnt show it but there is plenty of caves and holes though the rocks for water flow and circulation. hoping all this rock and sand will keep my water clean.

I love that rock structure, it looks like you have the right amount of rocks in there(I'm a newbie so take what I say with a grain of salt). Love what you're doing with the tank, I'm suprised you have so much in there (fish shrimp snails and lots of frags it seems) so soon, but if it's working for you and all your params are in place then nice work!

yeah all seams to be working, worried about going for 2 weeks holidays though, but theres not alot of stuff in there that could cause problems.

Made a couple of frag racks to keep frags off the sand bed.

a hanging one from the top opening and a magnetic one.

My Heliogunia is dying, has been retracted for a week and i thinks its completely gone. Everything else thriving.

All my parameters were good besides calcium which was low. started dosing calcium and doing water changes but its not working.

I was told these things are easy to keep, just shows how noob i am lol.

Hello Fellow reef people,

So, my Helio is dead or dying. Has not opened in a week and a falling to bits.

Water Parameters look all good, even took it into my LFS (Aquaristic) to check it and it was good so i bought a pink SPS thing. seems to be doing ok for the last week.

I also found this on top of tank. are these snail eggs?

its a jelly sack with what looks like eggs inside. i thought snails lay eggs onto the surface.

My tank has finally been shut down after a year of awesomness.
