ajmckay
Looks like a branching macro... Maybe something like this? Unfortunately I can't find much more than that. The difficult part is the texture - it looks to be stiff, while most of the red branching macros I'm aware of are soft and filled with fluid. http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/354980-red-hexbranching-rare-macroalgae-for-sale/ Link to comment
billdeluz
That's the issue I'm having can't tell if it's hard algae or not Link to comment
ajmckay
I'd say sponge but they don't tend to grow in that pattern that I'm aware of, plus the surface would likely have noticeable holes. Hopefully someone can chime in that has a clue. During my small amount of research I found a similar looking algae referred to as "red palm algae". Maybe check that out? Link to comment
jamescstein
Are the branches flat or rounded? Sort of looks like a codium of some sort.. but I don't think there are any red codiums. Link to comment
ndrobey
I've only seen it described as "red branching macroalgae." But it is rare and desirable. Link to comment
Onur
It's Nemastoma sp. (Red Finger Algae) and it seems that it needs a little bit stronger lighting. Link to comment
thoms_here
Thats good stuff and hard to come by! I agree with the "Nemastoma sp. I.D.. I really dig the red algaes and would love to get a start of this sometime. Here is a good article on it: http://marineplantbook.com/marinebooknemastoma.htm Good luck! Thom Link to comment
