Hello, Took advantage of BF and ordered an RO/DI unit as well as the brs mini carbon reactor and rox.8 carbon.

Now i plan on hooking up the reactor tonight and i know that i need to do it in increments, as in not the full amount right away as it could remove nutrients and stuff too quickly harming the corals and stuff i already have. My thoughts are using HALF of the amount that the brs calculator recommends to start off with.

My question for you guys is what else should i take into account prior to adding this to my tank? I have some larger sps frags ~12 frags or so, a couple hammer corals, various mushrooms and zoas and 2 anemones. Should i expect to see color loss or recession or anything like that? Should i do 1/3 or 1/4 the recommended amount to start? Any tips would be great!

Carbon won't strip the water like GFO. It pulls out the nasties floating around in the water. Particles and such. But in my experience it won't eliminate the stuff you want in the water column. I just hooked up my BRS mini reactor Friday and my tank has never looked so good. Everything is very happy and I'm running a full load of carbon in it.

Awesome! Thanks for the reply! I'm most likely gonna do 1/2 dose for the firstweek or so. I'm not a very lucky person so I figure better safe than sorry
