Hello fellow nano-reefers,

My name is Rory and im 31 years old. I live in Belgium so English is not my native language. So excuse me if there are typos or bad translations from my behalf.
I have been active on this forum for about 1 year, but have been reading this forum for over 3 years now. I would like to thank everyone out here for the great information you guys and girls provide.

So this is going to be my really slooooowwww mooooo build thread.
We are expanding our house at the moment and it should be finished around march 2017. There is finally going to be a place in our living room where i can place my tank. So yeay!!! :D
My wife has sensitive ears so everything must be quiet as can be :ninja: . She really hates the noise coming from my freshwater tank now.

The tank:
-Red sea reefer 170 (white)
Equipment:
-Bubble king mini 160 extra slim *edit: bubble king double cone 130
-Red dragon 2500 return pump
-Giesemann vervve plus 180 watt + tank mount
-Ecotech Marine vortech mp10wqd or mp40qd (what should i choose? Is the mp40 to much overkill?)

Dont know what to use for heating, any suggestions?

I already contacted Smiz for a custom acrylic top so we dont have any carpet surfers. (Will purchase this when funds are available, this will cost me almost 3 times the regular price due to taxes and custom costs)

Livestock:
1 x Royal Gramma
2 x Clownfish
1 x Yellow watchman goby + pistol shrimp
1 x Tailspot blenny

4 or 5 x Chromis Viridis *edit
2 x blood shrimp
CUC (of course)
Corals: zoas, acans, rics, frogspawn, torch, hamer and some gsp.
I will use real reef rock to scape my tank.

So to start, this weeks purchase will be the bubble king mini.

Tips and suggestions are welcome :) .

Rory

Oh my, is it me or is this font super tiny! I am having trouble reading it without zooming in my mac. Haha :)

Hey Elizabeth,

I edited something on my Phone and the font changed...

Should be better now :)

Looks like a great start with that quality equipment. I have a Reefer 170 and really like it so far, Red Sea did a great job with this setup.

I have a Cobalt neotherm heater, it is slim and the temperature has been very stable.

I think the MP10 should be enough flow but I don't own one so hopefully others offer their opinion as well.

Hi WRX,

I have seen the reefer 170 in person and indeed they have did a great job with it. Stunning looks :D .

I like the neotherm heater but in europe we can't find cobalt aquatics products. We have the exact same heater, the Aquael neoheater (even the name is almost the same  ) but Aquael hasn't got the best reputation. I could go with the Tetra proline heater, this is a very similar heater but with a turning knob. The aquael and tetra heater are both manufactured in Poland so i think it comes from the same factory. So not sure about the quality...

What neotherm do you have? 150watt? Because i read that in the beginning there were problems with the bigger ones.

I would think the mp10 would be okay too as long as your returns have good flow.

I had an mp10 on tank that was longer, but not as wide, and I only used it on 40% with my return running too. Since your coral stocking doesn't make it seem like an sps dominate tank, I would say an mp10 would be fine. If you find any dead spots you could always add a small powerhead behind the rocks.

However, you could always do an mp40 so that you will know for sure you will have enough flow (and it will be useful for a future upgrade, thinking ahead ;) )

These are beautiful tanks and I hope to have one when I am done with college (only one more semester!)

I went with the 200w, my local fish store had it in stock. I'm not familiar with the reputation for having problems, and have been satisfied with it so far.

There are plenty of options for heaters, the sump has plenty of room for whatever heater is available in your area.

That's what i'm thinking to. If i ever upgrade i might be better with the mp40. I am also considering the apex WAV...

Thx for the info WRX, maybe i will go with the tetra proline 200w. I think the default ones were only in the begining. Do you have a build thread WRX?

Reefer 170 and stand

Sicce 2.0 return pump

Cobalt Neotherm 200w heater

Reef Octopus 110sss skimmer

Radion xr30 pro and RMS tank mount

Jebao RW4

Reef keeper lite controller

Tropic eden reef flake sand

Bulk Reef Supply complex branch rock

Sounds great! Was doubting between the radion and the vervve. Just like the form factor and finish on the vervve a little bit more.

Is the ro sss110 the new or old design? Those new ones look realy great imo.

Btw what are you keeping in the 170

So i have been doubting if i should go with the bubble king mini 200 extra slim with the rd3 speedy pump. With a dc pump i could tune it better for my size of tank.

Also does anybody know how loud the vectra m1 return pump really is?

Thx.

New design 110. I like it, it's very quiet and there's still plenty of room in the sump.

Right now there's only 1 clownfish, a yellow watchman goby, and a tiger pistol shrimp in the tank - I moved then over from an IM10 tank. I plan on having a pair of clowns + anemone, some kind of wrasse, and maybe another fish or two.

The skimmer doesn't have much of a bioload to pull out yet but it's still getting some skimmate.

Awesome tank I to have the 170. The MP 10 is more than enough flow for that tank. I use this heater http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/finnex-hma-heater-w-analog-controller.htmlmy Neotherm split and melted in my old tank. Look forward to following your new build.

Honoured you dropping by Lawn.

I've been thinking about the aqua medic titanium heater. Kinda the same as the finnex.

Will go with 2 mp10's, should be enough flow. Really excited to recieve my skimmer :-).

Nope not yet. Our house will be like a little construction site during the next year. So to avoid any damage, i'm buying my tank as one of the last things.

Saw these to, http://www.evolutionaqua.com/aquariums/eareef600s.html almost the exact same dimensions and great looking cabinets. I just don't trust the noise level of the overflow system. Also the sump layout just isn't that good. But damn those textured cabinets.

So Santa dropped by today. Guess i've been good. Got my bubble king double cone 130, red dragon 2500, mp10wqd and a red sea refractometer.

The finish on the royal exclusiv products is outstanding. I am one happy camper ?

Hmmm, thinking about adding 4 or 5 chromis viridis to my livestockplan. You guys and girls think this could work?

So in the meantime, these are my two little helpers  , meet Alba (black, female) and Mickey (white and ginger, male). Mickey is just 7 months old and Alba is about 3 years old. We adopted them both from a animal shelter. Alba has been with us for about 2 years and Mickey about 6 months. Absolutely love them!

Following! Anxious to see how this turns out!

Thx for following Morgan, i am really honoured!
I hope one day my tank will be as beautiful as your tank! Will have to wait some time though...
Wish my girlfriend was into reefing like you... Sure would speed things up!

I've been thinking about setting up a fusion 10 until our house is ready. I just want to start reefing :D .

I already have a skimmer and heater for it (i was searching for a fusion for almost 2 years but couldn't find one in Belgium and now it pops up at my lfs :o ). When our house is ready, i can Always use the fusion as a qt  .
