Finger coral

Hi all,

I've searched the other topics but couldn't find what I was after.

Fairly new to this but have had a reef aquarium set up for a few months now. Last weekend I received a torch coral in a fairly poor state but after introducing to the tank it perked up and looked fine. A day later brown jelly set it. This then caused a spike in the aquarium that caused the death of a clown and blood shrimp.

Ammonia levels seem ok now but my question is, is my finger coral dead. It's fairly deflated and has white stuff around base.

Any advice most appreciated

+1 to what metrokat said. It just looks pissed. Blow it off, keep it clean and keep the water good and it will likely recover. A leather isn't really dead until it melts completely.

You may even lose a large portion of the coral, but I would bet some of it will survive.

I had a huge toadstool leather in my tank. Had to get rid of it since it took up to much space. Hacked it/peeled it off the rock it was on. Now I have 5 more from the tiny bits of tissue left behind.

Leathers are indestructible.

Ok so I blew the white stuff off and some of the coral fell away too. Changed some water but tank smells a little off. Should I get rid of it or prevail?

Leathers stink, I broke up a rock with one on it and it smelled like death. I put it back in the tank with carbon and it is doing fine after a few days. BTW leathers shed too I know my toadstool will look bad and then shed, it seems to grow when that happens.
