Rain Simulation...

I had a dream last night... rain simulation. Is this a thing? I know it's not necessary... at all... but would it not be cool to have a bit of rain on the surface every now and then? Maybe part of the ATO system? It could pull it up and slowly drip the fresh water into the tank... like nature does. I guess the down side is the drops spitting when they hit the surface.

I don't know. Just a thought. I am sure someone has done it and it turned out horribly for them. I might have to test something though...

Would corals in the wild be close enough to the surface to experience freshwater pouring down on them, though? You'd think it'd be mixed in by the time it got to them.

For sure but it's not for the sake of the corals, it's mostly for us as world builders to look at haha. I would imagine fish would respond to it. I know when it rains, and I am in Vancouver, the fish feast because the drops knock more bugs into range.

Corals would probably "endure" a rain simulation as they would any abrupt salinity change (no benefits there). There are not very many, if any, bugs flying over reefs. SW fish don't know what they're missing out on.

Really no reason to outside of when I used to pour water suuuper carefully back into the tank during water changes just to see the strata variances mix together when I fired up the pumps.

If you have ever been under water while it's raining and looked up I would imagine this would be interesting to have in a tank. There's no NEED for it but theres also no need to have a tiny ocean in your house with the amount of stuff we need to maintain it. There would be no 'use' for it aside aesthetics and adding a natural event to your tank.

Cool setup for sure. It'd be super hard to simulate on a nano tho cause you'd only get a ten second rainstorm before topoff is done. Many led drivers have storm functionality programs to get the right lighting, add a flash bulb and you're pretty much there. Here's something you might also find interesting. It's a scuba diver swiming the strata between FW and SW in a Cenote.

Here is a scuba diver "fishing" under water.

Totally. I was thinking it'll be more when I get my 6000 gallon tank up and running haha

I have seen those pics before actually! Insane! Very cool!

I've tossed the idea around a few times to have it rain on my mangroves, so I wouldn't have to use a spray bottle.

i wanna say i saw a guy with a mangrove sump on rc that used a herp mister setup on his.
