LED for an ATS

Hallo

I need some LED for an opflow algae scrubber. The scrubber will be around 7 x 7 inch.

What would you recommend ? I need everything: solderless LED, power supply, potentiometer, wirering, EU-plug.

I was thinking 4 red and 1 blue LED and then run the led's on about 50 %.

Also would a copperplate be enough as an heatsink ?

That much violet won't grow much in the scrubber. Red LEDs have lower voltages, so six total LEDs on the smallest driver won't really work well, you'll need to do six 660nm and one 430nm. Use an Inventronics 26w 700mA driver and you can dim the light down as the scrubber starts so you don't inhibit the algae growth.

The Cree XP-E you linked to is 620-630nm, not 660nm. You want this instead: http://www.ledgroupbuy.com/solderless-deep-red-660nm/

 

Cree does make a 660nm XP-E, called 'photo red', but LEDgroupbuy does not stock it. I would imagine the cost would be significantly higher than their current chip for not much more flux. Milad usually will only stock something like that if it makes sense to the end user. Sure he could make a slightly higher profit off of it, but the end user wouldn't get any real benefit from it. :)

 

As for the heatsink, no way to know if it will be enough just knowing that it is copper. How big is it, how thick, and where it will go is it open to the air or is it sealed up? You may need a fan. You can try it, attach the LEDs and run them, and if after ~10 minutes you cannot keep your finger held to the heatsink because it is too hot, then you will need to add a fan.
