picozoa
I have a kid moving home and my office is about to become a bedroom again. I need to move my tank about 20 feet or so into the living room. I have read that it's a bad idea with tanks to move them with stuff in them, but I'm thinking that since the tank is so small, I might be ok. The tank is a JBJ 3 Gallon picotype. My plan was this coming weekend I was just going to treat it as a 90% water change. Drain all the water, pick the tank up and then move it, put the new water in. Will I be ok with such a small tank? Has anyone done this before? Link to comment
buckeyereefer
shouldn't be much problem. if you have much sand. try not to disturb it much. less chance of an ammonia spike. Link to comment
HarryPotter
LOL it's three gallons dude. Just pick it up carefully and move it; it weighs like nothing! Link to comment

pewpewkittah
Agree w/ harry move it during a waterchange. +1, just be careful of the rocks hitting the glass. If you've got a high rock structure I would move it to the sand till you get it moved. Link to comment
Merthynia
I did this last summer when our AC broke. They gave us a temporary AC that I put in my bedroom. I did a very large water change and just picked the tank up and slowly carried it into the next room. Like others have said, just be careful of rocks hitting the glass. Link to comment

NinjaReefer
How I move my picos: Take most the water out. Put tank onto thick cutting board. Put water back in. Put plastic wrap over top. Buckle it safely into passenger seat. Drive around real slow, tap brake pedal at 2.3 second intervals to creat wave action. Link to comment
picozoa
Thanks everyone. I figured I'd be ok, but then didn't want to be the guy with the broken pico because he didn't ask. Link to comment

The last line made me laugh after a long boring night shift. And I had an ATO disaster with my 12 gallon fluval edge while I was on holiday. On coming home I drained 85% ish of the water, lifted it off the stand to the table 5 feet away and refilled it most of the way and left it there a day while I moved the stand and cleaned the carpet etc. Then put everything back and lifted the tank back onto the stand and refilled like nothing had happened. I now have a 75g system, I'm not looking forward to when we next choose to move house................ Link to comment

I moved across two states with my pico and just put everything in a 5 gal bucket for the trip. THe water splashing against the glass can damage it. Link to comment
