How to transition from tap to RODI

I just got the rodi setup. I am cleaning my mixing bucket of any residue - aka vinegar. I want to use my salt bucket as mixining because it has a lid and evap will be less of a problem.

Question is, how do I transition? Do I do water changes and add the new RODI to the tank with changes? I am just getting top off water brewed so that can automatically start going in.

Yes, simple as that. I started my aquarium with tap because I was impatient. Since I have been adding only RO/DI for top off and water changes. So eventually you will have 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 percent RO/DI salt water in your tank. =]

Hope this answers your question.

I would just do as big as your buckets will allow and maybe do a couple water changes in close succession at first. Like others who have already posted said, with each water change you will dilute the remaining tap water that was in the tank.

10 gallon, but I only have a 5 gallon bucket. Trying to obtain another. I'll do a 50% perhaps?

Home Depot sells 5 gallon HDPE buckets for like $3, as does pretty much any other hardware store lol. Buy a few of them, they come in handy and stack for easy storage.

I am actually rather travel limited - bicycle, and it would be easier for me to wait in order to obtain a pickle bucket from work than for me to ride over to a home depot.

I don't have an SPS, but I do have a fish, gorgonians, and LPS.

The reason no sps is my hardness is insane. I can easily match sal and temp. I can only do a 50% unless I get a 5 gallon bucket from work.

Woot, I managed to transfer the salt to one of the one gallon buckets I had (with lid) so I got my second bucket. this has a lid, which was what i wanted to reduce evap. I need to bring up the salt a smidgen in my current mix and warm up the water in the current RODI catch.
