Any fish sugestion

Hey y'all. I was looking for a great addition to my reef tank. I'm only putting one fish in my tank. Yes I said one fish. I want the cream of the crop. Preferably something beautiful. Now it's only 10 gallons! I know that's too small for most things like tangs but once they grow I do have a tank to transfer them to. So please no feedback telling me not to put any fish at all. Unless you have something else cool I can add. Only reason I even want a fish is because of people going where's the fish lol so I want something really nice. I was thinking like a platinum clown or something but really idk. Everyone and there mother has a clown. Thanks!

Your statement bothers me if the ONLY reason you want a fish is because people are asking where your fish is, then DON"T get a fish. It's your tank. Other people are not taking care of it. If you don't have the desire for it, then why get it??? Either your heart is in it to take care of a fish, or coral, or bta, or shrimp, or it's not. I wouldn't ask for suggestions for fish if YOU don't want one. Plain & simple.

Figure out what you want first in a tank, if you're already there, then don't do a fish if that doesn't tickle your fancy.

That's not what I meant ? I would love a fish too and I take care of my fish. So I don't really mind how much it bothers you. That's why I asked people like yourself to not post telling me not to get fish. So please don't post on my forums anymore. Any other sugestions?

Could have been worded differently to be understood. That's what's hard with forums or IM or anything of this nature. Tailspot blenny then.

^ totally agree... what else is in your tank or plans for your tank... yellows and blues seem difficult coral/colors to aquire. Personally my yellow clown goby and blue/green chromis add awesome coloration that are missing in my tank...

I assume this is a coral tank? Post a pic when you get a moment.

Having a fish is actually a good thing IMO as it provides some nutrients for the corals!

If it were me I would get a clown... They're by far the most popular saltwater reef fish - and for a reason. They're cheap, they're bright, they're recognizable, they're hardy, they stay a nice size, they live a long time, and they're loaded with personality!

A designer clown would also be cool if you wanted to go that route vs. a regular ocellaris.

If money is no object you could get a Swissguard Basslet :)

You are correct having a fish in a reef tank does have its benefits. Yeah I really like the black ice or snowflake clowns but it's just kind of like everyone has clowns ya know. I was just looking for other suggestions

Swiss guards are awesome!! I had one, he got hit with a rock when I was cleaning some algae off the glass and nudged a rock. He lasted for two weeks after that. And my wife never lets me forget it, cause that was her favorite fish.

But seriously, only get a fish if you want it. Maybe a small goby and shrimp pair

Seriously? Don't think we need this kind of negativity on this forum. You came here for suggestions and you should be prepared to get responses that may not tailor to your particular feelings or "demands". We all just want you and your livestock to be 100% happy

Moving past that, how do you feel about designer clownfish? There are many different kinds if you are looking for something particular. There is one breeder in particular that deals with almost all of them, Il have to find the website for you.

Another fish might be a yellow candy hogfish. Such beautiful fish, but may grow a bit large after a few years.

Dottybacks are super aggressive but if you have just one fish in there it will be okay. They come in all sorts of bright colors.

Ill add more to this list once I can think of some colorful fish for you, I am on a similar search currently.

I'm really liking this orchid dotty back. Very vibrant color great human interaction, stays fair in size, I have mine in a standard 10 gallon, it seems content an relaxed, it hunts the rock work and made a cool cave under my rock work, does move a bit of sand only complaint when it throws it over corals lol. Pictus blenny, was my other favorite fish, RIP, intriguing coloration and pattern but and for a good while, I think it was relying on pods and algae I started it on flake which was amazing, Possum wrasse would be my third suggestion I like how they navigate through the rock work.

No problem man. Just want the best for you so you can have the best saltwater experience possible.

You have any fish on the top of your list? Will be interesting to see what you choose since I am on the same hunt :) Need something colorful and unique. Something that won't hide all day. I might go with the yellow candy hogfish myself.

Get whatever fish you like that fits. Who cares if clowns are common... unless you work at a pet store, you probably don't see clowns in real life very often unless you own one.

I have one of these lined dartfish, wonderful fish. Won't fit comfortably in a 10g if it is adult size though. It's a shy fish so can't promise it wouldn't hide in a 10g either.

Idk honestly. I love all fish so much I cannot choose. My lfs has some amazing black ice and snowflake clowns. They host a torch coral and I think that would be awesome. Since I'm only putting one fish in tho I'm looking for something awesome and not extremely common. Only reason I said that about clowns is because I have had plenty of them and everyone including my nephew has one lol. But I do love designer clowns

+1 for pseudochromis/dottyback. They're very personable.

From your statement that has everyone up in arms of "where's the fish" from other people, I'm guessing this tank is at work or at least pretty public? I had the same questions in my 1.8g at work and it gets OLD fast. Especially the comments of "you should get a goldfish! what about a betta". Every. Day.

At least a 10g is easier to work with stocking wise. I think you have a ton of options, especially since you have another tank to put them in. You could also take into consideration what your stocklist is for your larger tank, and treat this one as a temporary growout tank.

Some other things I didn't see above, small cardinals, pygmy hawkfish, tons of gobies and smaller blennies, some of the smaller damsels...the list goes on. Do you want a fish that just sits? Hides? Hunts through the rockwork or begs all day?

Let's see a pic!

I have an orchid dottyback - great colors and is active.

Only negative is that it digs and spits sand around the tank. Mine spent a good week exclusively spitting sand on one of my chalices. I think it finished it's grand design caves now but for a while I had to keep blowing off rockwork.

Clowns or firefish always good. Especially if you splurge on a sweet designer one - I personally think the snowflake and black ice are sweet, the blue coloring they get looks awesome.

I have a green clown goby, I think they are pretty sweet. Mine hid for a while but now is often out in the open a lot, pretty cool color patterns on them.
