New tank idea

Greetings - So right now I have a 20L that has been running for a couple years. I started with a small patch of starburst polyp that is now quite large. I have an empty eheim aquastyle 35 that I want to fill up. I was thinking of going bare bottom and having the starburst polyp just be the substrate almost like grassy look. I can scape over that and frag from my 20L .

Will I have problems with less bio filtration? I was thinking I could use a canister filter and seachem matrix I have laying around to help with this? I know they can be nitrate factories but I have no issue cleaning the canister out during water changes.

The other question is what should I do for a CUC if I have no sand?

Any advice will be very helpful!

With less rock and/or sand to act as a bio-filter, you just need to limit your bio-load (less fish). However, it's remarkable how little rock is actually needed once the bio-filter has become established.

You can even keep nassarius snails without a sandy substrate. Regarding a cleanup crew, nothing special is really necessary.
